Its almost Nowruz (Persian Newyear).

I was reading (http://www.iranicaonline.org/articles/haft-sin) about the haft seen today actually. Interesting how much variety there is on the sofra despite the set seven.

Correlation with the seder plate?

Instrestingly, about a year a ago I found out that nowruz (a variant of it I believe) is also celebrated in Mogadishu.
