Attachments & image size

I just attached an image to a post (.PNG format) and the attachment is resized considerably smaller than the original. Is there a way to upload images without this happening?

Thank you! I often use my own external host, but sometimes attaching here is preferable. Down the road, I'd possibly be willing to pay to upsize my attachment limit, by the way.
