Hi,

My haplogroup was assigned as M-417 , however I am not sure which downstream group does it belong to.

Can someone please help identify it. I am attaching the YSNP output.

Appreciate it,

If you tested at FTDNA, have you joined the R1a Project? It is administered by Łukasz Łapiński and Michał Milewski, the latter whom I knows posts here. They will give you insight and advice.

No I tested at 23andme.

Does 23andme give a high level grouping, and omit the sub clades?

It does not provide a subclade, just a broad grouping. You can transfer your 23andMe data to FTDNA for $19: https://www.familytreedna.com/learn/imports/transfer-autosomal-ancestry/family-tree-dna-family-finder-transfer-program/

However, if you wish to get more info on your y-dna, and autosomal test won't offer much.

So should I have directly tested with FTDNA then, rather than 23andme, if they can not even assign known SNP groups?

23andme is fine at this level of Y. Plus you get mt and autosomal data.
Now it may be best to test with a Z93 SNP pack if you are from South Asia.

Thanks Parasar, yes I am from SouthAsia, (I had taken 23andme as it seemed more convenient to order). So does it mean that the 23andme chip cannot read beyond M417, because when I did the conversion of 23andme Y DNA data to Y-SNP's I did not find any downstream SNP's beyond M-417 using this tool https://ytree.morleydna.com/predict.

I am asking this because I do not want to buy Z93 pack and then a Z283 pack and then say, none applies.

Yes 23andme is limited in its terminal SNPs.
Yseq can test individual SNPs for less than the panel cost. But if you are Z93-, IMO the money spent would be worth it!

Thank you! Will do that.

Finally got my results from YSeq, its still in processing stage but looking at the current details it looks like its quite close.

I have posted the details in this thread. Will be nice if you can take a look.
