Out of curiosity I googled for Gatty and Jew. As far as I am aware Gatty is not a Jewish name. It could of course be that these are not real Gattys but families that for some reason at some point adopted the surname Gatty. If not then it seems some Gattys really were Jews. Could that suggest two unrelated groups Jewish and non Jewish sharing the surname Gatty ?

It was quite common for Jews arriving in the UK to take on a more English-sounding name. So there could well be unrelated groups. I'm not sure in that case what the original name might have been: perhaps something akin to German Gut, Goethe, etc.?
