Hi everyone

I am having a hard time locating any literature on H28a. From the limited sources I could find, most individuals in this Hg seem to live in Finland.
I am Greek, but my maternal grandmother was from Trieste, Italy.

My mtdna is also H28 and I also would love to get more information about this rather rare lineage. If I am not wrong it is most frequent in Scandinavia, Finland and northeastern Europe but except of that I know nothing about it.

H28 is estimated to be about 9000 years old, H28a is estimated to be about 4000 years old is widely distributed from Greece to Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. There are also two H28 of samples from Sardinia and Armenia.

Thanks for sharing this information. It was not found in ancient samples yet or ?. I wonder with which kind of ancient population it was linked in the beginning but maternal lineages are much more complicated it seems and have often a quite chaotic geographical distribution more than paternal lineages.

The first ancient H28a was found in Latvia. H28 is still relatively frequent in the Baltic region.

I should cover what I know. Our mtDNA lineage is descendants of Mariupol Greeks, previously the Crimean Greeks evacuated by the Russian Empire before the annexation of the Crimean peninsular in 1873. It saved many people from extermination.
I wish I remembered the many things my grandma told me, when I was little. She mentioned something about north of Greece and a military expedition there - I don't know what it means. According to auDNA a possibility is Egyptian and Cyrenaika Greeks (may be Carthagenian?).

More ancient H28

3x Globular_Amphora_Poland H28 3100-2900 BCE Kierzkowo Poland
In the context of the ancient H28 found in Latvia, i would say that H28 arrived in East Europe with EEF admixture from cultures like Globular_Amphora which were absorbed by Corded Ware later
