A PLOS Genetics paper from 2012 found genes for bone mineral density, cortical bone thickness, bone strength, and osteoporotic fracture risk.
Paper: "WNT16 Influences Bone Mineral Density, Cortical Bone Thickness, Bone Strength, and Osteoporotic Fracture Risk"
Link: http://www.plosgenetics.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pgen.1002745
Some people build a calculator based on the paper. The app is based on the 23andme api. So it only works for 23andme customers.

just plain regular Irish boy I guess
I am a bit surprised because my bones are thick and dense and have never broken...that's not the good thing you might think because it means I have had alot of much worse soft tissue damage in sports...instead of a bone breaking, my ligaments, tendons and whatnot would get ripped up and torn and take way longer to heal
Results from SNPs rs9525638, rs2908004, rs2707466, and rs7776725 on genes WNT16 and FAM3C. "Higher/Lower" compares to those with mutations. Check out the PLoS paper.

Ilmari we must be twins B) my score was exactly the same as yours. Considering I have spent most of my life dancing, gymnastics, running, weight training eta.. and have fallen from great heights and other accidents. I have never broken a bone in my body and consider my self very strong I expected to be super human
It cant possibly be working properly. I better wrap myself in cotton wool.

I agree, that looks rather odd for me and my mother. But conversely, when my wife had a bone scanning, before a chemo, she was said to have the bones of a teenager, while she was 55. Therefore she is perhaps actually "superhuman". I don't know what to think about this, regardless of the fact that I am suspicious about the health oriented reports of 23.

Its interesting to see all the variation among everyone who has posted. Those of us who get 14/14 don't seem to be too common. I should mention applying load can improve bone density (osteoblast activity in particular), so therefore if you get a low score, it isn't a representation of potential biological change over time.

I was expecting to break the calculator and cause their servers to crash -- I've fallen off a roof onto cement; got beaten the living sh*t out of by some 20 y/o when I was 14; and crashed into a brick wall at 30mph on a motorcycle with my shin behind the peg/footrest. I broke/fractured nothing. The footrest dug into shin due to the force, I still have a "dent" there.

Derived rs9525638 is more common in Eurasians than in Africans, and slightly rarer in South Eurasia than elsewhere in Eurasia.
