This was the maternal haplogroup given to my dad. I can't find much on it and was wondering if anyone is in this haplogroup or knows anything about it. I'm not really expecting to get a response but thought that it was worth a shot anyway.

(Plain) H27 is somewhat common in Poland, but not H27e.

It's also found in Denmark and England. http://www.ianlogan.co.uk/sequences_by_group/h27_genbank_sequences.htm

It's rare because it is very young. H27 has an estimated age of 3,906.5 2,364.2 https://haplogroup.org/mtdna/rsrs/l123456/l23456/l2346/l346/l34/l3/n/r/r0/hv/h/h27/

I have an exact match but their ancestor's surname is French in origin. Although the surname has 'de' like de Burgh so the ancestor could have been in Ireland. My ancestor's surname is Norman also so that's interesting. However, that's a moot point since the surname changes every generation. 9 of my 30 matches have an Irish surname or a maternal ancestor with an Irish surname. Only 14 name their earliest maternal ancestor.

I wonder how young H27e is if H27 is that young.

Just thought that I might add a little update. These are the locations given on the Haplotree (https://www.familytreedna.com/public/mt-dna-haplotree/H) on FTDNA. Going by this, it could be Irish but it's a very small number and not much greater than the other countries listed. There are only 17 people on the haplotree with 5 Irish. There might just be more Irish because a lot of people of Irish descent seem to test with FTDNA. It's hard to know with mtDNA where haplogroups originated.

For a young haplogroup, my dad has 37 matches with 2 at a genetic distance of 0. His closest matches seem to be Irish too and there's others scattered throughout. It's hard to tell since many don't include the location of their most distant ancestor. Just noticed that there are seven new matches since my last post.
