Hello Community.

Is it possible that the mtDNA Haplogroup U5a1a1 originated in the siberian area?

U5a1 has been found in mesolithic Russia!

Thanks!

Modern U5a1a1 is distributed mainly throughout widely understood Northern Europe, with some exceptions from around the Mediterranean. It looks like a line that migrated with some subset of IE speakers.

To my knowledge, the oldest U5a1a1 has been detected in the Eneolithic western Russia ca 5000 BC. Thereafter, it has been detected in Yamnaya, Fatyanovo and Corded Ware.

As preceding U5a1 has been found in Sweden in Mesolithic Maglemosian technology Stora Förvar cave SfF11 c. 9170-8000 calBP and in Sicily in Late Mesolithic Uzzo 6628-6481 calBCE UZZ82, and, on the other hand, U5 has been detected in Upper Palaeolithic Europe, a Siberian origin for any of these haplogroups is unlikely.
