View Full Version : Thoughts on why my DNA.Land Results do not match my known ancestry?

I have been trying to figure out why there is such a discrepancy between my documented heritage and my results from DNA.Land, and every other commercial test and calculator. 5 of my great grandparents had ancestry from all over the British isles, 2 were from North Central Sicily, and 1 was from Athens. I have no idea why I keep getting a large Baltic/Slavic component. Does anybody have any thoughts? Thanks!

My idea: the calculator cannot separate Northwest European from North Slavic.

At first I thought that too but they are genetically distinct. For example, take the numbers below, they show the percentage of North-Atlantic and Baltic components found in Eurogenes K13. I am no expert but I assume this difference (seemingly the only major genetic difference between the two regions) is from the Baltic HG ancestry that is common in Baltic populations. It would seem that Neolithic farmers did not penetrate the area as much as they did other regions in Europe.

But every company does different things. It could be that DNA.LAND mixes up Eastern European and some NW European.

True but like I said above, I'm not talking about an isolated company but a trend across companies and gedmatch calculators.
