13 new U5 full mtDNA sequences from northwest Spain (Zamorra Province) were just published. The results are very diverse and include several rare and old branches in the U5 tree, including several samples that are U5b1* and one U5b2a*. I'm still sorting through them post a question here if you have questions on specific samples. They are: U5a1b, U5a1d2a, U5a1h, U5a2a1, U5b1*, U5b1*I, U5b1*L, U5b1b1*H, U5b2a*, U5b2a1a1, U5b2b, U5b2b1a1, U5b2b3. It is very nice to have a large set of samples from this region where U5 could have lived during the LGM.

Interesting. Are there any details about the U5a1b?

The U5a1b sample has extra mutations 16172, 16362, and 152Y. 16172 seems to occur frequently in U5a1b, and 16362 is also a very common mutation, so these may not be very helpful for phylogeny. U5a1b in general is odd in that many samples in this group have few extra mutations.

I notice that U5b2b2 is not specifically mentioned. I'm thinking it was a bit further east during the LGM, such as France or Italy.
