View Full Version : What company would be most informative for recent Southern Chinese origin?

I want to give my partner a DNA testing gift, but know that most of the commercial focus has been on Europe. We'd be dealing with South Chinese recent heritage, although how much of that might be Cantonese versus Hakka versus Tanka etc... is a mystery. What company will likely have the best East Asian samples and therefore the more refined characterization of results? Thanks.

you can consider WeGene, it's a Chinese company with more focus on Chinese.

GEDmatch is most useful for distinguishing South Chinese groups. The MDLP K23b calculator has specific "Cantonese", "Hakka", Taiwanese Hoklo, and Singaporean Chinese reference populations. 23andMe and WeGene don't have as specific reference populations, but you need to order a test from one of those companies to get a raw data file that you can upload to GEDmatch.
