Your motheline arose in woman sometime between 19,000 and 26,000 years ago. It is thought to have arisen within Europe alongside other branches such as U5 and U4 (Costa et al., 2013). Although its mother group (HV) is frequent throughout the Middle East, HV0 is only found in very low frequencies here. It dwindles down until almost vanishing completely across the Arabian Peninsula. This supports a European origin for HV0 and a Middle Eastern origin for HV. The earliest carrier of your motherline may have resided in Anatolia during the peak of the last ice age. Haplogroup HV0 has been linked to groups J1c and T2. The people carrying these lineages likely resided with the carriers of your motherline in the refuge zones of Anatolia during the Last Glacial Maximum (Hay, 2016). The migration patterns for the carriers of your motherline are sporadic and difficult to follow after the Ice Age, most likely due to their nomadic hunter-gatherer lifestyles.

Today, your motherline is distributed at a similar frequency across much of Europe, and spreads as far as northern Africa. Notable frequencies are found in Finland and the Caucasus (Malyarchuk et al., 2010; Gonzalez et al., 2003)."

The earliest carriers of your motherline are thought to have lived during the coldest period of the Ice Age (the Last Glacial Maximum). Huge glaciers covered the northern regions of Europe making it uninhabitable to humans. As a result, it is likely that the early carriers of your motherline resided in Anatolia where the climate was slightly more habitable. It would be a few thousand years before they could leave this refugia and expand out across Europe (Hay, 2016). These people would have been hardy nomads, utilising natural shelters to take respite from the harsh conditions outside. They would have lived hunter gatherer lifestyles, hunting animals for meat and foraging what little plant material they could find. This could even include bark in desperate times.

After the Ice Age ended, the climate became warmer and wetter. In keeping with the nature of their hunter gatherer lifestyles, the carriers of your motherline travelled across Europe taking various and intertwined routes. At some stage during the Neolithic expansions, the population's carrying HV0 likely intermixed with the farming populations. These farming populations spread throughout Europe from the Fertile Crescent in the Middle East. From here, hunter gatherer lifestyles slowly began to be replaced by agriculture. This paved the way for populations to grow and would ultimately support kingdoms and civilisations.

"After the map of U5 here comes the other major maternal lineage of the Saami, the Basques and the Cantabrians: haplogroup V (including HV0, aka pre-V). V is also well represented among the Berbers from the Maghreb and Libya. HV0 may actually have originated in Northwest Africa during the Paleolithic then crossed over to Iberia, then spread throughout Europe toward the end of the last Ice Age.

The presence of hg V is remarkably homogeneous in Europe with only a few countries/regions lying outside the 3 to 5% range. Among the outliers, let's note the higher frequencies in the Benelux and West Germany, and in the Rhône valley of France according to Garcia et al. 2011 who found 10.9% in the Lyonnais and 13.5% in the Var department, although both based on small sample sizes (n=46 and n=37). The data for the Benelux is also limited, so once larger sample sizes will be available the percentage of V might fade into the European average.

V only drops under 2% in Greece and in most of Italy (except the Northeast, Tuscany, Sardinia and Sicily). Note that the data for Sicily and Tuscany are both quite contradictory. Boattini et al. 2013 found 0% of V in Sicily (n=118), but Torroni et al. 2001 found 4.7% in a huge sample (n=634). Boattini et al. also found 1.9% (n=52) in Tuscany, while Achilli 2007 found 5.3% (n=322). (EDIT: the reason for the conflicting data was that Boattini et al. did not report HV0 separately but included it within HV).

The Caucasus is a real patchwork as usual, with V being found at relatively high levels among the Avars and Azeri, but nearly or completely absent in most other populations."

I am an HV0-t0195! All my lines are from Mayo Ireland. The Ballynahatty woman of late Neolithic Ireland had this as well. Her people were originally Cardial Ware people from Iberia who traveled up the atlantic, and built megaliths.
