Hi All, I was hoping for any input. My surname is Elliot (census records list England as origin and oral history is Lariston, Scottish Borders) and to date I have no close matches of any sort. I have tested 111 STRs, Big Y and Y Elite. One other man shares this Haplogroup with me and his surname is Collett.

I had no close matches either (nothing above 25 markers). I used the FTDNA TiP tool on my 12 and 25 marker matches to identify those with the highest percentages. I also used the http://mymcgee.com/tools/yutility111.html to find my closest matches that were just outside of FTDNA's cut off for matches at 37,67, and 111.

Through this process I found my father's closest STR match. I contacted him and he agreed to do a $18.00 Yseq test (I paid for it), to see if he was on my terminal SNP branch. He was and he then ordered Y Elite to see how many other SNPs we shared.

Hi Mitchell, Thanks for your input. My dad and cousins along our Elliot family share Norwegian, Autosomal DNA. Knowing that Norwegian surnames are relatively new, this makes me lean toward a Norwegian man joining the Elliot Clan centuries ago.

Mitchell, My closest STR match is 37/4 with a man with the surname of Holmes. FTDNA advised me not to bother to pursue.
