Complete Mitochondrial DNA Diversity in Iranians (link) (http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0080673) includes 352 full genome mtDNA samples from Iran, by Derenko, Malyarchuk et al.

24% haplogroup U with many samples from rare branches including U1, U2c, U2d and U7. 21% haplogroup H with a large number of Hstar samples, showing great diversity of H in this region.

The supplement includes spreadsheets showing the private mutations and location in the phylotree for each samples.

This study makes no sense. What is "Persians" supposed to mean here? The people referred to as "Persians" here are not even all Farsi-speaking. Even among Farsi-speaking groups, there is not more in common than with non-Farsi speaking groups. So it's silly to divide Iranian groups along linguistic lines when Iranians identify regionally and that is where most of the differences come from.

the paper was on iranians and in Iran there are many different ethnic people, so in link below, the map, the lighter green is Persian

Why is U2c considered rare?

This is great! More U7 samples are needed! Have you compared these with the existing FMS U7 samples from your project Gail?

" The results show that Persians and Qashqais are close to each other and to Armenians, whereas Azeris from Iran are located nearby Georgians. It is worth pointing out the position of Azeris from the Caucasus region, who despite their supposed common origin with Iranian Azeris, cluster quite separately and occupy an intermediate position between the Azeris/Georgians and Turks/Iranians grouping (Figure 1). Interestingly, the results of our MDS analysis do not combine the populations studied according to their geographic and/or linguistic affinity. 100 Kermanis out of 181 Persians were included in this study, 7% Of Kermanis belong to mtDNA M. Parsis are around 50% M as far as I remember, and it's claimed that they have ancestry from Eastern Iran. I wonder if the Parsi M mtDNA is more related to Kermanis than to Gujaratis. Their higher frequencies of M might be due to founder effect.

55% Of Persians in this sample were from Kerman province (vs 7.7% from Razavi Khorasan, 9.9% From Tehran) , Kerman only has 2.7% of Iran's population. They should've tested more Persians from different/bigger provinces imo.
