My eyes are brown; prediction is green. I would initially think that the predictor is not good. But, my mother has green eyes. As such, there may be some truth to it, but, in my case, the darker pigmentation won out. There are apparently many genetic mutations that contribute to the color.

Edit: Got the missus eye colour right, light grey/blue (https://i.postimg.cc/d3rq9wC1/oculus.png), although it missed the little bit of yellow she has around the iris. I'm hoping our kids inherit her eyes

Gedmatch has both my father and me with blue eyes, which is correct, but predict brown for my mother when they are also blue and DNA Land predicts mine as brown : )

Kind of a complete miss for me, my eyes are darker than that. I'd describe the colour as honey-like or brown.
But admittedly I didn't zoom in as hard as in their pic.

Her eyes are unquestionably blue, and a bit darker than the photo or my dad's.

My eyes are darker and unquestionably green, not light blue with a bit of green overtone.

Not close; I have dark brown eyes and gedmatch doesn't come close with either FTDNA data or 23andme. Gedmatch gives me two shades of yellow/amber

My father's pale green was accurate .............my mid green was wrong ....it gave me blue ( like all testing companies state I should have .

my grandson blue is the same as his father and my younger son

so , they where correct with all bar myself ,
I might have a glitch in my DNA if all companies say I should have blue

I think there's probably more alleles involved than are tested for at the moment. My mother has blue eyes, both her parents had blue eyes. My paternal grandmother had light brown. My father and his father were the ones with the dark brown eyes that I inherited, but obviously have a lot of other alleles involved in eye color that weren't expressed. I know my dad was heterozygous for brown, since my youngest sister has hazel green eyes. My children's father has blue eyes, but my son has the dark brown while my daughter's are very blue.

How many rules do you have for this evaluation?


I have other examples where gedmatch indicates blue eyes while they are brown.
I think the lack of results of some markers wrongly gives light eyes

Slightly off topic but I have a V5 kit. Does genesis not have this feature? If not, does anyone have a good converter for V5 to V3? I'd be interested in giving it a go on mac if someone could hook me up.

Genesis does Not have this feature. Genesis is in a sort of stand still. there is a 96.7% thing that hasn't changed in months and a 0% for as long as well. They also no longer use their own admixture algorithm and instead use the older data pre-Genesis.

Not necessarily! Punjab is a massive place with loads of people and loads of caste variation. Even most Jatts (at least 80% by my estimation) have chocolate brown eyes. I'm sure a lot of them have alleles that aren't expressed though.

As I said, if there was a company that tested all the required SNPs then we would probably get more accurate predictions.

And a lot of those south Asians with non-chocolate eyes have hazel rather than green or blue.
