I sometimes get e-mails like this from personal genomics customers when I mention that this forum might be a good place for them to join...

I've been trying to join athrogenica for months, but it's impossible to get in. I replied to their questions, but no follow up.

I don't really know what the issue is, but I thought it might be worth a mention, just in case there's a problem with some genuine individuals being denied membership for technical reasons.

It's important to have a growing membership in a place like this for obvious reasons.

You've presumably been receiving these emails over the past several months.

We instituted a "request-only" membership scheme as a trial from around January to May 2019. That trial has since ended, and open registrations to the site have been enabled again.

Some prospective users communicated with us through VPNs, or displayed other elements which prompted suspicion. We informed the absolute majority of such users that there's a problem and offered an alternative solution. Most people in that situation never replied back beyond that. Whether the people communicating with you fall in that category, I don't know.

Some of the people who've contacted you may also be aggrieved ex-members who're looking for a way to return to the site. A handful of them tried registering during the trial repeatedly and were ignored. Our community should bear in mind that we're constantly dealing with an entirely hidden layer of administrating to keep this place civil and free of the usual rancor one observes in other venues.

Anyone is welcome to register to the site at their leisure once more (just gone through it myself). I'll double-check that no remnants of the trial exist in the interface for unregistered users either way.

Hello, Anthrogenica. This is my first post on this forum.

I didn't have any problem joining in. I've been lurking in the shadows for a while now, reading the threads of specific interest to me.

That said, it might be nice to have a specific thread here where newcomers to the forum could say hello, and introduce themselves more extensively if so they wish to do. Just a suggestion. Maybe such a thread already exists, but if it does, I failed to find it.

I am known to Eupedia users as "hrvclv", an avatar based on my real name. It's not that convenient, though, being unpronounceable, except maybe in Serbo-Croat (!). So here, I chose to use the first name of my earliest known ancestor, back in the 1500s.

I'm from Auvergne, France. My Y-haplo is R-DF103, downstream of U152 > L2. My X-haplo is H1bm.

That's about it. I am no genetics expert, but try to keep learning, even though I seem to constantly be short of time. I'll try and contribute when I can, within the limits of common sense and of my limited degree of expertise.
