Wondering if i am wasting my money as i have not been following the L21+ research the last few years..I am guessing my R-L21+ linage is either British/Irish or German from the middle ages in terms of ancestry, but i guess i need to do allot more research to get back on top with the current data..

Can you provide your kit numb so then the admin of the FTDNA group can have a look in detail.

But my feeling is that, Genographic Project (http://shop.nationalgeographic.com/ngs/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=2001246&gsk&code=MR20944) might be an option to consider, note that there is a promotion ending soon.

Or ordering the Big Y from FTDNA.

Why would i want to test with Genographic? isnt it enough with FTDNA?

Don't test for P314.2 as it is downstream of DF21 and you are DF21-. Geno 2.0 could work out cheaper than ordering SNP after SNP through FTDNA.

Margaret is right, and, besides that, your closest match (62/67) in the R-L21 Plus Project, Dysvick, kit 200859, has already tested P314.2-.

Both of your closest matches in the project, Dysvick and Nilssen (kit N36461), are Norwegians. You don't have anyone else all that close, so your y-dna ancestry may not be British Isles, after all.

Nilssen has already done the Geno 2.0. He did not come up positive for anything included in it beyond L21, so that eliminates a lot.

You may have to just save up for the Big Y or the Full Genome thing, which is what I am doing.

When i say British/Irish ect i mean in a long time perspective, i see there is a cluster near Bergen, which is where my linage is from, and its traditionally been a major port for trading, it also fits with the northern Norwegian placement of R-L21+ matches, but i guess i need to investigate the time frame involved with each STR mutation to get a good picture..

Guess i will just have to see then, wait until it gets reduced in price..have other immediate concerns with regards to money so...

Hard to tell about the possibility of distant British Isles y-dna ancestry. There were Beaker settlements in SE Norway that could have introduced L21 there, but, of course, there was also British, Irish, Scots and other input into Norway during the historical period that could account for some of it.

I could have missed something, but it doesn't look like any of the three of you (you, Dysvick or Nilssen) has tested for DF13. You might want to start with that.

I tried to find the people you mentioned rms2, Nilssen and Dysvick, but i cant find them at all, just Lauritz Lasseson Heihiller b c1630 Fusa, Hordaland, which is from the same region as my known YDNA ancestry, so that makes sense, as i wanted to see if all my closest matches are from the same region..

Ive ordered DF13, but what will it tell me in terms of origin?

Well, it could eliminate a lot of SNPs, namely, all those that are downstream of DF13, if you are DF13-. And DF13+ is by far the most common variety in the British Isles and among L21+ men in general. To my knowledge, not a single L21+ DF13- Irishman has yet been found, not one.

If you are DF13-, then the next step would be to test for DF63, which is thus far the only known DF13- clade within L21.
