Carballa et al. suggests that HV4 originated in Eastern Europe. That is a possibility. However, as nearly always, sampling bias may be an issue.

I have heavily criticized this paper from when it was published. Of course my writings are all in my "Rathna's assessment of genetic materials" (put by me or by others). Lastly I am examining two other HV4a1a4 from Italy on 23andMe.
