What can you guys tell me about this subclade?

I think it is a very rare lineage, however considering its survival in mostly Germanic an Scandinavian peoples, its likely related to or originally Proto-Germanic.

See the R1a project at FTDNA (Family Tree DNA). There are two R1a projects. I usually check the "R1a project". It is more detailed than the "R1a and Subclades" (or whatever it is called exactly). L664 is conveniently on the first page, reflecting it being older than other subclades. My sample is in the light green region (kit # 54319).

Without testing deeper, no sure answer, also not sure if there are any SNP packs on familytree DNA for this to get deeper Clade.
But could well be the ancient migration to West Europe and Scandinavia.

I am L664. They have unearthed an L664 sample from Bergrheinfeld, Germany, subclade S3479. It is an old Western Germanic subclade, not many samples taken yet. There are many in southwestern England.

I am L664, from Guipuzcoa, Basque Country, Spain- I really didn't imagine that connection with the Germans. In Guipucoa between 15-20% of men are R1a

So far they've confirmed S2894 as positive and YP441 as negative.

It's uncommon but seems to peak in Scandis; I've seen some English from east England score this Y dna (heavily viking settled region); I suspect it was spread by the vikings.

They seem to be testing the biggest branches first and working their way to the smaller ones if they are tested negative.

It looks like you and I are related. I don't know how to show my FTDNA chart, so I'll just tell you what they gave me: S2880 > S2886 > S2895 > YP5628 > YP5623. My direct paternal line comes from the Luster area at the east end of the Sogne Fjord, Norway.

Think about ordering a WGS 30x test from DanteLabs and uploading the results to Yfull.com You will not need to test some panels och SNPs in the future.
