FTDNA results: J-M172, but now what?

Hello,

I did a Y-37 test and my predicted haplogroup is J-M172 but now what?

Is this the only information i get for 180+ dollar lol? How can i trace my paternal line further back?

I mean on FTDNA you have this function: ''Refine your results and better understand your paternal
lineage by ordering our recommended SNPs..''

The problem is that i have more than 50+ recommended SNP's under M172 to test on. Each SNP order costs 39 bucks.. I mean thats to much ofcourse..

I already putted my STR results on Nevgen and they predict me 91% as J2a1 Z7671.

Can somebody give me a little bit more information to understand the situation?

I'm from Posof / Turkey btw.

Have you joined FTDNA's J2-M172 Haplogroup Project (https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/j2-m172/about/background)? The administrator may be able to classify you more precisely, suggest the most cost-efficient way to proceed, etc.

Alternatively, you could order Yseq's J2-M172 Superclade Panel for $99 (https://www.yseq.net/product_info.php?cPath=27&products_id=11093).

Yseq is a highly respected company, founded by former FTDNA scientists. As far as I know, they test the SNPs of a panel via Sanger sequencing--the "gold standard" of DNA tests. Yseq's greatest disadvantage is that their results cannot be directly imported into an FTDNA account. However, if you join an FTDNA project and forward your final Yseq classification to the project administrator, he/she can manually place you into the most appropriate category on the project's web site.
