I happened to see these stats, just now:

There are currently 5359 users online. 74 members and 5285 guests

Most users ever online was 7,306, Today at 07:19 AM.

I've never seen numbers on that scale, here. Looking at the subforums, there are close to 1,500 "viewing" in the YDNA area, nearly 600 in the mtDNA area, and several hundred in the Commercial area. Other categories seem a bit high, but those are the main ones. Has some major media player just discovered Anthrogenica?

Facebook is my best guess.

Could be a Spam or Denial of Service attack, the site is very slow at the moment. The spam are members joining(in fact bots) for the purpose of publishing and sending spam, while the DoS could be intended for your service provider.

Moving this thread over to Forum Support shortly.

A preliminary review doesn't suggest it's a DDoS. We're looking into it now.

I too found the site to be running rather slowly the last few/several days...not real bad but irritating....today, it seems to be zipping along well, so not sure what toggles got togged, but it seems to be doing much better...

fyi
