Someone who shares my father's matrilineal ancestor has tested positive for this haplogroup (French descent). Where is it from? Its modern-day distribution seems to be in Western Europe, and per Eupedia, actress Meryl Streep also tested positive for K1b2b (https://www.eupedia.com/europe/Haplogroup_K_mtDNA.shtml#famous_people). Feel free to post if you or other relatives belong to K1b2b.

Thanks for the ancient DNA samples!!! So it seems that in the Mesolithic period, K1b2b and its ancestor were located in Eastern Europe. Not sure if it was there or not at an earlier time.

K1b haplogroups in general are believed to have moved into Europe with the early farmers from the Near East.

According to Eupedia, K1b2b is broadly found in western continental Europe. I'm in the K mtDNA project at FTDNA, and the matrilineal ancestors, assuming correct, are not all that helpful, ranging from Wales and Scotland to the Ukraine, and Sweden to Spain. It's not an especially common group. (Most Ks that are not K1a are not.)
