Dear all,

This is somewhat off-topic, but I thought you might be able to shed some light on an inscription stamped onto the side of a pot gifted to me in Kazakhstan some years ago. Before the Kazakhs adopted Cyrillic alphabet they used Arabic. Some Persian inscriptions have also been found in South Kazakhstan, I seem to recall.

Would anyone be able to provide a translation, or if not a translation (it could be Kazakh underlying the text), a transliteration?

Much obliged.

Having done a little more research, I think it could be Sogdian. Meaning still unknown. As such, I suppose it might have been better to have placed it in the Central Asian section, although linguistically it is an archaic and eastern branch of the Iranian language group.
