Iím going to show my ignorance, here. Do you mean shared DNA of x number of cm across x number of segments?

Number of matches(people) you share with another person . For me it's now 683. A massive pile up I would think.

Per segment? I mean, I tested my parents, I share more than a thousand matches with my dad

I have several pile up segments, but the segment with the most IBD matches would be somewhere around 150. I do share more matches with these persons, mostly 200-250, sometimes 300-400, but not all on the same segment, so I don't keep track of it.

Wow, that's huge. I don't know how to sort by these, but my highest that I've noticed (excluding immediate relatives) is in the 100s, less than 200.

Granted, my relatives (after my parents and sister, who I added) drop to two second cousins once removed (1.2% and 1.1% shared). One of my issues on MH is a lack of close relatives vs., say, Ancestry.

Aren't such large numbers of shared ancestors a strong indicator of a pile up/IBS situation ?

I think so.

That prompts me to ask a perhaps unanswerable question . Above how many shared matches would it begin to indicate a match is due to IBS/a pile up ?

The match is Finnish and apparently Finns are pretty inbred so maybe that explains it?

29 matches with my second cousin. I suppose this depends on ethnicity.

Looking through this thread draws to me the conclusion that the vast majority of matches are false positive (IBS) . It's definitely a case of quantity over quality .

My Great Aunt, we share 15% and 1,000 matches. I have 10,000 or so matches, so that is 10%.

Match connected through my GGG, we share 0.4% and 342 matches. I seem to have a lot of matches for this line, given how far out it is.

Half Great uncle, 5% and 832 matches.
