Whalen's Geno 2 results

well, they finally came in, took alot longer than others, but better late than never

-no new y snp although I am looking forward to seeing what might have been ruled out..I was/am L513
-I did get a better resolution on my mtdna, now I am H1bd-I have no clue what, if any scholarship is attached to that haplogroup, but will start looking
-I had some trouble transferring the Geno 2 results to my ftdna page, (probably cause my default log in is as a surname co-admin)...it finally did take, but I can find no data for the geno on my ftdna site and it did not change the terminal snp's for both y and mtdna (it should have)...does that take awhile to get 'incorporated' into the site?

-assuming I can get my hands on the raw data, any suggestions as to where I could send it/crunch it?

Well, it seems the raw data got transfered from Geno to to my FTdna page...at least I am assuming the following is some of that info

-this batch of info is for SNP's tested in Geno 2...NG said correctly that my terminal group is L513, but I am wondering, were any of the markers found in L513 tested in this bunch as well? I am afraid I have not been paying attention the last several months and am unsure what they are...there were like 6-8 I think but I also dont know if Geno 2 tested some of them....in any case, here is the raw data, if anyone can squeeze it for a bit of info, I would be grateful

- I just checked for my MTdna, which did get a much better resolution from the Geno 2 package and I dont think this is the info dump-FTdna has me as H from a old basic test, Geno has me as H1bd...is this the data that tells the geno results?

You have to download the Geno 2.0 CSV file to see your mtDNA data. Your raw data do not show up on your myFTDNA pages anywhere. Go to your Geno 2.0 Profile and click on "Expert Options". From there you can download the CSV file of your raw results. The mtDNA results have "mt" in the chromosome column (at least, I think it's called the chromosome column - I'm going from memory since I am on a different computer right now and not looking at my own results).

I hope I have read this right-I checked my geno 2 file against the known or suspected SNP's beneath L513-last count I had from MikeWWW's work was 15

so out of 15 'SONS' of L513...

-Geno 2 does not test for 6 of them L1333, L192, L193, L69.5, L908, L909

-of the 10 it does test for, these are my results

so the geno test has given me results for 7 new SNP's that are meaningful to me (cause I had a la cart tested 3 others)! YAY
...dont know if I am positive or negative for them, I cant remember off hand where to find the derived/ancestoral info (anyone know?) but regardless of how they turn out, it tells me more than what I knew before and i might get my asterisk back (or a new terminal snp, but I doubt that)

so the short strokes for any other L513 guy out there, if L513 is all you have tested for, Geno 2 will give you the results of 10 more SNP's

Need some help guys...

after going over my Geno 2 data, it seems that there were posibly 7 SNPs that were tested in it that could be relevant to a L513 guy

after looking around, I found ISOGG, SNP Index ( http://www.isogg.org/tree/ISOGG_YDNA_SNP_Index.html )to try to find out if I had a new terminal SNP---I needed to find out if my GG's and TT's were derived or ancestoral

I'm not completly sure what 'G->A' means, other than when, in this case, a G becomes an A, that is the mutation and means you are + for it

so for example, when it says...

because I have a GG and not an A, I am negative for that SNP?

It turns out, the SNP index did not have these 3 SNP's in it, so I still dont know if I am + or -

to make it more interesting, I have been tested - for L705.2 in an FTDNA a la cart test, but dont the Geno results say I am + for L705.2 as well

I rather suspect I am actually negative for both these and I am just misunderstanding the nomenclature of the G->T stuff

That's an interesting situation. If FtDNA is a correct reading then you should be seeing a few false positives. If Geno2 calls are correct then you lone - for L705.2 from FtDNA is incorrect. Since both SNP very close maybe that has an affect on the results. I would ask FtDNA about this one.

Does that mean you think I have understood the 'G>T' nomenclature correctly? thats the part that is worrying me and it is of course the core of the issue

well, I sent the following email to FTdna today, hopefully they will be able to let me know which results are accurate

"There seems to be a conflict between my previous Y L705.2- results I got from FTdna via a la cart testing a few years ago (ancestral), and the results I recently got from my Geno 2 . which shows derived!
Geno 2 has me as L705.2 TT when the mutation for it (derived) is G>T and L706.2 AA where the derived mutation is G>T

If I understand the mutation charts I got from ISOGG, one of the tests has to be wrong...either the a la cart FTdna for L705.2 or the recent Geno 2
This is quite important to me as it will determine my actual terminal SNP so I appreciate your help with this

some progress to report...
got 2 emails from ftdna today, first one was a generic 'we got your question, you are wonderful,thanks for your money, we will get right on it asap, the marines are on standby...."

then 15 min later a 'real' response from an actual person...
"We will have the lab review both sets of tests and I will have this checked right away. Again thank you for being patient while we are working on this situation."

so onward and upward...here is hoping for a new terminal Y-SNP

...I am not sure where those comments went after this thread was reorganized and put in its own sub folders, but in any case, I just uploaded my data now to the R21 Geno sub folder and thought I would post the web site so that others could post theirs there

Mike you have very similar autosomal results as my kit. Mine is 45% NE, 36% MED, 18% SWA. Why do they put the British reference population first when the German one clearly is more similar?

I haven't spent much time on the results other than trying to clarify some Y dna stuff

I know because there are so called Germanic markers found in long time British pops due to ancient migrations or conquests, there can be some mixing or confusion in pop samples...but I have no clue if that's in play here

Hopefully, someone that knows more about this can comment...
