The first question is that--according to FamilyTreeDNA--my predicted Y haplogroup is R-M269; however, I uploaded my ancestry.com autosomal DNA result to WeGene, and they claim my predicted Y-DNA halpgroup to be R1b1a1a2a1a2c1a4a. So, are R-M269 and R1b1a1a2a1a2c1a4a in any way related, or is WeGene's prediction just a poor guess?

Also, how is WeGene even able to ascertain my Y-DNA haplogroup from my ancestry.com autosomal DNA? And if this is a legitimate extrapolation to make, why didn't ancestry provide me with this info?

Thanks!

Ancestry does report some SNPs from the Y-Chromosome in its raw data, but it does not currently report the haplogroup explicitly (https://www.ancestry.com/dna/en/legal/us/faq#interpret-8).

Here's another site that will extract your Y Haplogroup from Ancestry raw data: https://ytree.morleydna.com/extractFromAutosomal

Your ID Caoimhin is interesting. My last name is O'Keefe which is Caoimh in Irish (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O%27Keeffe). Any connection to O'Keefe/O'Keeffe?

Thank you! I'll try to make sense of the Morley site right now.

"Caoimhin" is a common Irish spelling for "Kevin," which is my first name. No "O'Keefe"s in my background (that I know of!).

Thanks again.
