According to this paper, mtDNA M74b1 is found among the Surigaonon people, who are native to Mindanao in the Southern Philippines.

It's possible that haplogroup is also found among other Austronesian-speaking Island SE Asians. Is this your son's haplogroup by any chance?

Hi,

My MtDNA is M74B1. My maternal line comes from Timor Island.
Oral history tells that our ancestor migrated from a small island to the west, Sabu/Savu isand.
Savu (also known as Sawu, Sabu, Sawoe, Havu, Hawu, Hawoe) is the largest of a group of three islands, situated midway between Sumba and Rote, west of Timor, in Indonesia's eastern province.

I would love to learn more about the M74B1 lineage.

Sorry for the late reply. Yes, M74b1 is my son's mtdna haplogroup. I am italian and my wife is mostly of southern chinese (indonesian) ancestry. However, her direct maternal great great grandmother was full indonesian from Demak.

Tjada, have you taken the full mitochondrial from FTDNA? Currently there are two samples in the FTDNA tree, one from Indonesia and the other from Vietnam. I haven't upgraded my daugther/son's to full mitochondrial yet.
