For the first time, I have Relatives in that feature of LivingDNA.

Chromosome Viewer and Map features are not yet active.

Chromosome Viewer and Map features are not yet active.

Same here - I have always had none in the the past, and now there are 166 ranging from 32.54 cM to 9.54cM. I can sort them by largest segment size, although not how large that segment is yet.

Thanks J1 DYS388=13. I've gone from three matches to 133. The closest new one shares 28.74cM with me and the most distant 9.48cM. I can only see initials for most due to privacy settings, but my nearest new match has a W surname, which might suggest two interesting possibilities in my tree.

Is it just me or is anyone else frustrated by this JS etc being shown instead of a first name and surname ?

Many of the matches are familiar from other sites. I was interested to see that some of my closest matches, at about 35cM, are only small 6or 7cM matches on Ancestry after the effect of Timber.

I had one match but now have 172, from the UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Ireland. My brother has 244 matches from the same countries and our matches are all between around 9cM to around 37cM excluding each other.

OK I asked my #1 match who is from Wales and she did, indeed upload at some point.. She had forgotten

Yes matches seem to be now un-throttled, which was argued for about long ago (when dinosaurs roamed the earth), and they countered they only wanted meaningful matches etc etc. think they have a sloth coding for them or somthing, the chromosome browser and map still not working, ad they defaulted everybody's to initials only, this company really [email protected]#; make me mad.

I've now whacked on my name and pic but doubt it will encourage anyone to follow suit. To be honest, given my one in ten typical reply rate I don't even feel like contacting any of these nameless matches right now. Not in the mood for more disappointment.:\

1) Pleased to see a few more people have added first and last names.
2) The sorting is crap.
3)Is there away of finding matches in common?

If you click on a match, I think it gives you shared matches, albeit nameless photo less initials. Waste of time.

Right now a lot more people have full names.. I wish I was better with Country Flags
Also Here is what I find on match sizes so far.. My two largest matches #1 is from North Wales and at 23andme she has 41 cM with 3 segments, Living DNA she has 42.51 cM, Ancestry DNA she has 19 cM .. All indicate 3rd Cousin 1 R . The next highest match is from US and Living DNA shows 40.6cM Ancestry Shows 29 cM.. So this says more about AncestryDNA's Timber Algorithm than Living DNA's being incorrect

I bought this directly through LivingDNA. Looks like my 488 is high from the feedback I see. I guess I'm related to a lot of people who have tested with them. I have large numbers of matches on both My Heritage and Family Tree as well.

I also took the actual LivingDNA test. I've taken FTDNA's Family Finder test, both AncestryDNA's v1 and v2, and 23andMe's v2 and v3. The only company where I simply uploaded results from elsewhere is MyHeritage -- where I actually uploaded results from 23andMe, FTDNA, and Ancestry.

Anyway, I suspect you're right about 488 relative matches being on the high side. At least it's way higher than mine. I have 26 pages of about 10 each, so around 260. This also seems to include a couple of duplicated names on the first page that seem to belong to the same person. I don't know whether there is any duplication elsewhere.

I now have 447 matches, up from five. At first it was just initials but now full names. Sorting needs work.

What's interesting is my Orion chip profile, Sirius chip profile and FTDNA upload profile all show exactly 447 matches so different tested SNPs didn't change the match total overall though I'm sure shared cMs and percent match vary due to the different SNPs.

I think the UK matches are still defaulting to initials but they have changed the non-European ones (or perhaps non-UK ones?) to display full names by default because those are not covered by GDPR. I wish I knew more countries' flags! I can't see a way to find out which country a match is from if I don't recognise the flag, other than looking it up in an atlas or list of flags, or am I missing something?

Quite a few of my UK matches are showing with full names but some are showing as just initials or just first name. I had to look up a couple of the flags I didn't recognise.

I had uploaded my sister's DNA when I got matches.. They said she would have matches in 2 weeks ( I expected mine at least!)
I messaged and got this:"Hello Jim I am sorry to hear you dont match yet
we are actually running a mass update in the next few days so if you hold on a little longer you should have plenty of matches very soon
thank you for your patience Yours truly Esmee" ( my email for my kits is my husband's name- Jim")

UPDATE: Sister has 318 matches and I now have 209( up from 193)..

They have definitely done an update in the last day or two, because my matches have gone up from 339 to 360. I can't see an easy way to find which ones are new, because if I sort by Date Added, the people at the top are ones I have looked at before.

when I do Date Added it shows newest.. I think you need to lave "Relatives" and then click back into it and click "Date added"

I tried that and it made no difference. But I found that if I sorted on Date Added and then browsed through, the first 2 pages were people who I had seen before, but it showed new matches on pages 3 and 4. Then it went back to matches which I had seen before until page 11, where there is another new match. I hope they go on releasing them in batches, because if I see there is 1 new match but I have to look through 36 pages to find it, it is going to be quite time-consuming!

To make it useful I need the chromosome viewer, this is for me the most important tool for checking relatives. I guess nobody can use it already?

kiterunner
08-31-2020, 03:03 PM
No, "shared DNA" and "shared map" say "Coming soon". I assume one of those is the chromosome browser.

They have made some changes to the DNA match list ("Relative list") since the last time I looked at it. It doesn't work at all on my favourite browser, but I got it to work on another one. You can now search by initials or display name, and you can sort by "relationship degree", alphabetical order, or "newest first". Then you can (finally!) right-click on a DNA match and open in a new tab, so you don't have to keep sorting them again and getting back to the page you were on. Then there are four tabs: Conversation (i.e. messages), Relationship, Shared map (coming soon) and Shared DNA (coming soon). If you scroll down, it will show you the list of your shared matches, but it doesn't seem to show the total number of those any more. You would have to scroll through them all and count them to find that out. It still shows the shared matches in reverse order of amount of DNA shared with you, don't know why.
