I was wondering if anyone had any more information on the origins of my mtdna haplogroup, H5a1. Iíve seen people say it is most common in central Europe, but other sources seem to contradict that. My maternal line is west German as far back as I can tell.

It's "rare" (looking at % it's not much more common than red hair among europeans for example) and relatively widespread across europe and mena, it does peak in the alpine and Caucasian regions for some reasons but it's still not above 5% , it can't be used to trace ancestry .

I have that mtdna and I've seen many italians getting it in a website , but I've also seen some Kurds having it and needless to say Europeans of all kinds.
It was brought in europe from anatolian farmers .
