Scarcely a week ago, a leading genomics company, Illumina, announced it could sequence a human genome for the new, low price of $1,000. This week attendees at a personalized medicine conference heard a Silicon Valley startup say it would get the price down to $100.

It's just sensational news,it's just a company promising the 100$ genome like others did in the past.There's nothing official contrary to illumina 1000$ genome .

I think the $1000 genome test will be the beginning, but prices will come down as competition heats up. Perhaps a $100 genome test is not out of the question, especially if all you get for your $100 is the raw data.

Let's just hope the U.S. government doesn't try to save us from ourselves.
