My father in law is under this clade, so i am interested in the origin and history of this clade and would like to open a thread for it here. Based on what i could find it looks like a (Para)-Baltic clade, which early was assimilated by Slavs just a bit north(east) of their homeland. So we see this clade today often in North Poland, the Baltics, Belarus, Ukraine and Russia but rarely in the Balkan or among West Slavs. Michał give a quite good overview about this clade, which i like to quote here.

Among the potential "Early Slavic" Z280 subclades there are also five subclades under the "Baltic" (?) clade YP237 (one of the three major subclades under CTS3412, in a addition to Y33 and Y2613). These are L365, L366, YP355, YP977>YP1018 and YP582>YP578. Their common features are: 1) they all seem to be most frequent in the Northern part of the Slavic territory (including Northern Poland, Belarus and Russia), 2) they are all relatively less frequent than the major Slavic subclades (like I2a-Din, L1029, L260, Y2902 or YP569), and 3) they have less frequent sister clades under YP237 that seem to be associated with the Baltic ancestry (like YP420 and YP951-A). All this suggests that these were initially "non-Proto-Slavic" Baltic subclades that were relatively late incorporated into the "locally expanding" Early Slavic population, although I would assume that this "incorporation" took place before 400-500 AD, so before the major Slavic expansion started.

So far YP237 was found among two ancient samples from Estonia. Both samples cluster autosomally with North Germanics (Swedes) but seem to have some Baltic admixture. They very likely got their Y-DNA from a Baltic ancestor, what supports the theory that YP237 was part of an orginally "Baltoid" component participating in the formation of late Proto-Slavs.

I too would like to learn more about this clade.

Other than my 2x great grandfather leaving Danzig in the 1890s and our surname being pretty frequent around Gdańsk, I know very little about this line. Thank you for starting this thread.
