Udi samples have been added to Global25's spreadsheets, thanks to Azerbaijan - Turkic DNA Project.

Quoted from Wikipedia:
The Udi (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Udi_people) are considered to be one of the 26 tribes of the Caucasian Albania (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caucasian_Albania) of late antiquity. According to the classical authors, the Udi inhabited the area of the eastern Caucasus along the coast of the Caspian Sea, in a territory extending to the Kura River in the north. Today, most Udis belong to the Eastern Orthodox Church, while in Nij, they belong to the Gregorian church and used to conduct services in Armenian. Centuries of life in the Armenian, Iranian, and Turkish spheres influenced their culture, as is expressed in Udi folk traditions and the material culture. The Udi language is a Northeast Caucasian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northeast_Caucasian_languages) language of the Lezgic branch. The two primary dialects are Nij (Nidzh) and Vartashen.

More steppe than Armenians according to my analysis.Udi people have something like 'Dagestani' admixture in their autosomal. So yes, they might be more J1.

No J2a?

I'm not sure...They are Northeast Caucasian speakers so I think that they will be rather closely related to the peoples of Dagestan.

Yes. They are actually Armenian Like with a Dagestani Like admixture(more steppe) and less Levant compared to Armenians. Their Iran N/CHG ratios Are Not That different.

I see two Udi samples in this project that are both J1.

This was a great initiative from your side. I've had these Udi gedmatch samples for a while now and to me it looked like they fell inbetween Armenians and Northeast Caucasians. Indeed they are modelled quite nicely as Armenian + NE Caucasus.

Those Alan samples are very similar to modern Nakh and Northwest Caucasian peoples, with the exception of DA146 who seems to have a very Dagestanian-like autosomal profile but with an additional Iranian input.

The models that I posted are somewhat supported by historical sources as well.

In Greek mythology, the Gargareans, or Gargarenses, (Greek: Γαργαρείς Gargareis) were an all-male tribe. They copulated with the Amazons annually in order to keep both tribes reproductive.

Strabo wrote that "... the Amazons live close to Gargarei, on the northern foothills of the Caucasus mountains". The Amazons were attributed to the Circassians via the root maze. Gaius Plinius Secundus also localizes Gargarei at North of the Caucasus, but calls them Gegar.[4] Some scholars (P. K. Uslar, K. Miller, N. F. Yakovleff, E. I. Krupnoff, L. A. Elnickiy, I. M. Diakonoff, V .N. Gemrakeli) supported that Gargarei is an earlier Ingush ethnonym. Jaimoukha suggests that the myth might have been a nod to the similarity between Circassians and Durdzuks, despite their very different languages. The Ancient Greek chronicler Strabo mentioned that both the Gargareans and Amazons had migrated from Themiscyra.[5] Jaimoukha notes that Gargareans is one of many Nakh roots- gergara, meaning, in fact, "kindred" in proto-Nakh.[6]

However, there are other sources that suggest Gargareans were in fact Udis, and the name is derived from the river Karkar.

The Caucasian Albanian written language was used by the Gargareans in parts of Azerbaijan and Daghestan from the 5th to 12th centuries.
Caucasian Albanian possibly corresponds to the "Gargarian" language identified by medieval Armenian historians.

Do you know anything about their yDNA?
Udi DNA Project (https://www.familytreedna.com/public/UdiDNAProject?iframe=yresults)
Udi people have polycomponental origin including Caucasian "core" and Middle Eastern and Central Asian inclusions.

All of them also are in Azerbaijan DNA Project.
