Hey, I'm new to all that DNA stuff and just got my results from MyHeritage. I also uploaded my DNA kit to GEDmatch for more info.

My grandparents on my dad's side are, supposedly, Greek (Grandma) and Pontic Greek (Grandpa.
My grandparents on my mom's side are, supposedly, Italian (Grandpa) and German (Grandma, Born in 1938 in East Prussia)

MyHeritage gave me the following results:

56.4% Greek and South Italian
17.7% West Asian
16.4% Irish, Scottish and Welsh
4.5% Middle Eastern
4.2% Baltic
0.8% Balkan

Genetic groups: Northern Greece and Turkey // Ukraine, Southwestern Russia, Belarus and Poland

What does all that info say about my heritage? I'm surprised about the 16% Irish, Welsh and Scottish and not sure if that's accurate. Most people from the Cousin match on MyHeritage do have Greek names, only a minority of them do have an English sounding name and are from the UK according to MyHeritage. I think that I dont have "real" Irish, Scottish, Welsh ancestry then, maybe some of my Greek ancestors just settled around there for a while?

The Baltic part makes more sense, even though my Grandma was sure that she's German, she said maybe a bit of Polish because of the East Prussia situation back in the day and the general location of the place. But gedmatch is mentioning Lithuania in the 4 populations approximation Eurogenes above. So maybe Lithuanians settled in East Prussia and were "Germanized"? Or maybe MyHeritage is just calling that East Prussia part Baltic in general instead of German? I dont know, so many questions.

I dont understand the 4 populations approximation in general

The grandma looks like she's also Pontic/Caucasian.

I would suggest you to upload your raw data file to another DNA site (ex ftdna) or buy G25 if and when it's available. However as you can see from GEDmatch you have nothing Irish.
Actually, my wife who is mostly Greek Thracian has also got Irish/Welsh/Scotish (7%) on MyHeritage and that was a surprise to us also. Looking at Gedmatch, ftdna and G25 we didnt find any trace at all from those countries. The ethnicity estimates on MyHeritage are very misleading in my opinion. Do you know if you have any Thracian ancestry or any other greek ancestry than pontic greek?

Could be my grandma then? I only know that my grandpa is Pontic, don't know if the same goes for my grandma.

Thanks for the info about ftdna, uploaded my MyHeritage kit there and gonna buy their ethnicity estimate for 19 bucks. Worth a shot.

Don't buy other companies' oracles, they are a waste of money, especially if you are migrating raw files.

Better spend your money on G25, and then link your co-ordinates here so people can help you further. FTDNA will also give you another Oracle that won't shed any more light than what you currently get from Myheritage. And Thracian Greeks don't necessarily get Irish on Myheritage either, this is one of those tales that is circulating online.

This combo looks like it would plot relatively close to your reported ancestry, assuming that the grandma is also Pontic/Caucasian:

Georgian_Tbilisi + Pole_WestPoland + Spanish_Pais_Vasco + Turk_Trabzon @ 3.117735

Where can I buy that G25 analysis / the coordinates?

I found this page https://dnagenics.com/g25-studio/ but the link where it says "get your G25 coordinates here" doesnt work

Davidski/Generalissimo (the person who does the raw data to G25 coordinates conversions) recently posted on his blog that he is not accepting new orders (https://eurogenes.blogspot.com/2021/03/the-eurogenes-genetic-ancestry-store-is.html).

Check-in on that site every once in a while to see if that has changed; the way it usually works is you email him the raw DNA file you want to convert and transfer the money via PayPal.

Just my two cents, but I think this Oracle result is feasible based on your paper trail:

1 Armenian + Bulgarian + Italian_Abruzzo + South_Polish @ 2.777202

That is a decent proxy for Pontic Greek + Mainland Greek + Southern Italian + German/Polish

56.4% Greek and South Italian
17.7% West Asian
16.4% Irish, Scottish and Welsh
4.5% Middle Eastern
4.2% Baltic
0.8% Balkan

This is roughly 1 grandparent worth of genetic material and would indicate to me something more northern European. MyHeritage would have misassigned that region, which often happens.

It is certainly possible. It looks like the MDLP Oracle finds your best fit with two Pontic-like grandparents, as Dosas suggested. If you have that much Pontic Greek ancestry, the Oracle has to balance you out with more NW and less central European ancestry.

Do you know where in Italy and Greece those other grandparents are from? I am operating under the assumption it is Southern Italian and Mainland Greek, but that is because of the Eurogenes Oracles.

I know that my Italian grandpa was born and raised in South-East Italy, in a small town which is located between Brindisi and Lecce.

I don't know anything about my Greek grandma, the only thing I know about my Greek grandpa is that he's Pontic because of our -idis surname and that he lived in Northern Greece in the city of Kavala. So I assume my great grandparents were part of the Greek-Turkish Citizen "Exchange" in the 1920s and then they settled in Northern Greece.

What is your yDNA?

How can I find that out? Only did a MyHeritage test, do I need another test for that?

Use your raw file on this website and post a screenshot of the results: https://ytree.morleydna.com/extractFromAutosomal

Also, -idis in Kavala could be exchanged Thracians, if you tell us the village name and/or your grandpa's last name, we'll be able to help more.

My Greek grandpas surname is Michailidis.

The surname of my Italian grandpa is Amico, which translates to "friend". I just googled the name of the city again, turns out I was wrong and the name I had in mind was just the name of a famous beach there, also the city is not located between Brindisi and Lecce, its a bit to the left of Brindisi.

So the city is actually called Torre Santa Sabina.

I would say the biggest mystery then is your Greek grandmother. You can probably learn more using traditional genealogy techniques than genetics to untangle that mystery. Any older relatives on your father's side that could test would help you as well.

You need ftdna test. You need to find your male lineage!!!

I already uploaded my MyHeritage kit there, they are currently processing it. Matches are already available, also that Ancient origins option seems to work?

Here are the results

The red line starts in Egypt. Is that even my result? Now I doubt it after watching a youtube video lol, I guess just the percentage counts? Not that important then, gotta wait for their DNA analysis.

Percentage of the ancient origins though:

21% Hunter Gatherer
58% Farmer
21% Metal Age Invader
0% non-European

You can't count on these random results xD.If you want to check deeper your male lineage you have to order an ftdna test IMO(buy a cheap one for beginning). But mixailidis is a Pontic surname.Do you have any idea from witch specific part/region of Pontus they coming from?

After that step click "submit" at the bottom, then in the next page click "Feed this data into the MorleyDNA.com Y-SNP Subclade Predictor". Do that and screenshot the result.
