After going through the supplementary data of this article "Revealing latitudinal patterns of mitochondrial DNA diversity in Chileans",https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1872497315300788#upi0005

I found out sample 03-0481 from Concepción was assigned to D4b2a2a. D4b2a2a is predominantly Japanese according to Yfull.
Does this imply that this Chilean individual has a Japanese maternal ancestor or could it be a leftover lineage migrated to South American a long time ago?

Countries like Brazil and Peru have large Japanese and Chinese (and a smaller Korean community). I would think Chile has a smaller East Asian community as well (no idea though), and this individual likely has an East Asian maternal ancestor. Other (less likelier) routes are Polynesians, who had contacts with South America and of course the Beringian route.
