There isn't a thread for AncestryDNA results yet so I created one.

Feel free to share you and your families results if you have Portuguese background - Luso/a e Brasileiro/a

I believe it is based on where your matches (in highest frequency) are located in the country.

Now back to my updated mothers side (only others in my family tested). What's interesting is they always have this northern cline, so much "celtic" or "nordic" in their results compared to my dad, me and my siblings. Looking at other Portuguese results I see more homogenous portuguese, and spanish so interesting how this algorithm is functioning. I got no clue.

For example I'll show 2 full Portuguese farther relatives (not much related):

this is a common result for most Portuguese matches I see. Now compare to the rest of my family and my mom's side in particular:

Sorry I'm not sure what you mean? But this is the AncestryDNA test. I bought it about 2 years ago for my whole family.

I am hoping for more as well!

Your results look standard I just don't get the Spanish %'s and how they differentiate them between Portuguese. You didn't get any north African or SSA interestingly.

I will get G25 when it's avaliable, for better comparisons.

its usual for a Iberian get that results , gedmatch got archaic samples that you can match with and see the longest segment signature of origin of your DNA, , no matter portoguese or Spaniard they are people from the same branches or tribes , don't take much notice from that companies results it is not based in ancient samples but living people

Dunno if I should post this here since I only got 2% Portuguese :nerd:
I can guarantee, though, that at least 1/5 of my ancestry is Portuguese.

If you told me a valencian scored north African and i didn't, knowing what we know about north african autosomal distribution in the Iberian Peninsula, i would find that surprising. But a galician not really. Besides, the difference between me and him is 1%.

Thanks for sharing! The spanish is most likely being mislabeled as Portuguese. It must be hard for them to tell the two apart on this test seeing how much some pt are getting out of Spain, and some Spanish out of Portugal. Would be nice to know how they are differentiating the two on this test.

That is true. It isn't surprising knowing what we know about north african dna being as far north of Galicia now since Roman times. It is negligible between us no matter the region, no seriously statistically significant differences. Is the Galician getting more Spanish a sign of migrations from more eastern parts of Spain to the region you think? It could also be that northern Portuguese close to the Galician border may also get higher Spanish %'s. Would be cool to see if Ruderico tried out the test!
