Hi everybody.

Got my mtdna results and discovered that I belong to the H1e1a haplogroup.

I'd like to know if you guys have some info on the H1e1a or H1e haplogroups. Does anyone know if H1e is jewish?

Thank you in advance.

The Ashkenazi H1e subclade is H1e4a; H1e1a seems rather Western European.

Though this is an older link http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/GENEALOGY-DNA/2008-12/1228345556
Maybe your H1e is linked to Hutterites? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hutterite

My mathernal line comes from Oleiros, Portugal, whitch located in the same district (Castelo Branco) of Belmonte, a town that served as refuge to the jews fleeing from the spanish inquisition. Could it be related with the Sephardi Jews or do you thing it's just a normal iberian haplogroup?

Thank you again!

I don't see any reason to suppose this is a Sephardi lineage. There are subclade members from Spain, France, Germany, Cuba (probably Spanish), Italy, the British Isles, Germany, and colonial US. If it were Sephardi you would not expect matches like that but rather Iberia, the Balkans, the Netherlands/Belgium, North Africa, and the Middle East. The distribution gives the impression of a Spanish or French origin.

My paternal grandmother mt-DNA is H1e1a, and her maternal grandmother was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. My girlfriend is also H1e1a, there seems to have been a founding lineage of H1e1a that made it to the Canary Islands, because I know of a few people of Canary Islander descent who are H1e1a.

Hello Fellow H1e1a,

This was odd for me since my mothers family and all of her relatives going back at least 8 generations, and in some cases as much as 12 generations were ALL from Germany and its close environs. However, my Fathers family is ALL Iberian going back at least 5 generations. So, does this mean that at some point I had ancestors from Iberia migrating into Germany? I am quite the newbie on DNA and need some guidance.

Thanks,
George

I H1e1a. My grandmother just south of Lyon on the Rh˘ne river. And I have a very low Ashkenazi rate, lower than the French average.

I know I'm late to the party (no activity on this thread for some time) but I am also H1e1a and have only heard about the Western European connection when actually talking to my family- so this is very interesting!

I found my dad's mother is H1e1a. Her mother's line appears to be Irish for as far back as I can find documentation.

The oldest H1e1a found in the aDNA record thus far was found in Germany:

Esperstedt [I0807 / ESP 30] M 3970-3710 calBCE (5061▒62 BP) Y-Haplogroup: I P316+, CTS3384+, CTS3517+, PF3780+, CTS11979+ ; Mt-DNA Haplogroup: H1e1a G73A C146T C152T C195T A247G A769G A825t A1018G G2706A A2758G C2885T G3010A T3594C G4104A T4312C G5460A C5960T T7028C G7146A T7256C A7521G T8468C A8512G T8655C G8701A G8865A C9540T G10398A T10664C A10688G C10810T C10873T C10915T A11719G A11914G T12705C G13105A G13276A T13506C T13650C T14766C C14902T A16129G T16187C C16189T T16223C G16230A T16278C C16311T

Hi, from researching H1e haplogroup, I understand it is prevalent throughout Western Europe and the Middle East but seen in highest numbers in Spain (particularly the Basque area, Middle East and a specific area of North Africa. It is associated with the Jewish diaspora and particularly Sephardic and also Ashkenazi Jews. My family tree shows I am of Sephardic descent.
The 1a part is surely on enclave from the larger group?

I’m h1e1a, and I haven’t been able to trace out of North America yet, but my mum’s general ethnic breakdown through ancestry is NW European. My maternal line’s genealogical info breaks down at 7th generation. Hoping as more h1e1a Americans are posted about, I might find a common ancestor which might fill in some gaps.

But its presence in Europe long pre-dates the Jewish diaspora .It was there in the Neolithic.

In the 2019 on the Canarian Aboriginal mummies (Guanche, Canari, etc) They found H1e1a in these ancient inhabitants which are berbers. This new study defined the specific mutation in the canarian remians to H1e1a9
