I was guessing that you would be positive for Z49 and/or Z142.

So would that make you an L2*?

Personally, I hate the use of the asterisk. I'm not L2* since I was not tested for several known SNP's under L2.

That was a Chromo2 result, right?

There has been some discussion lately in another thread about whether or not Chromo2 includes S28 (U152). I noticed your results include S28+.

In my case, they said the chip implementation of S28 amd S139 did not function, so they did other testing to correct but report it as if it on the chip.

This is what they said after I got my preliminary results which did not have S28--initially.

"Your sample does not need to be rerun on the Chromo2 chip - we simply need to carry out some further sequencing in order to confirm your key marker.

When a custom chip is designed, there is no guarantee that all markers make it onto the chip - for Illumina (who manufactuerd our chip), there is only a guarantee for 80% of SNPs actually manufacturing, which is why we were not able to release the SNP list prior to receiving the manufactured chips. Fortunately our success rate was much higher (above 90%) but unfortunately some of the SNPs that had worked on our first chip did not manufacture on Chromo2. Fortunately, for the majority of these failed SNPs, we have a number of phylogenetically equivalent SNPs, which we have used to infer the subtypes in place of the original SNP. For the rare cases where there are no phylogenetically equivalent SNP known, we are manually testing the required markers , and these will appear in your genetic signature and raw data as normal.

Both S28 and S139 failed manufacture, so where a result is S116* and negative for all subtypes of S28, we need to manually test for those markers through sequencing. What we could do if you are in a hurry for your results is release them unofficially on the basis that you are S28+ S139+. Of course you know this from the testing you have had to date, but your Chromo2 results would have to be treated as "unofficial" until we have completed our own sequencing and can confirm the result. This would allow you the preliminary Raw results so that you can see what tested negative."

The answer of Haleaton is correct. In my first results, S28 and S139 were not included, and I was very disappointed. I knew already from the Belgian Brabant-DNA test that I was U152+, L2+, L20-, and this result was even not confirmed by BritainsDNA: only negative SNP's under S116+ (= P312). I got this first results by e-mail, but they were not showing on the website. When the results finally showed up on the website, S28+ and S139+ were included.

No, Jean-Pierre is U152+, and you are S145+, in other words, R1b-L21.

U152 and L21 are brother clades under P312 (S116 in BritainsDNA parlance), but they are separate.

Thank you rms2, I'm new to all this and find it very difficult to understand. My surname is Norman and my family tree which is well recorded back to the 12th century also confirms this, however my DNA says I'm Irish Welsh British Western European very confusing, well for me anyway.

If you look at the Normany Y-DNA Project (https://www.familytreedna.com/public/Normandy?iframe=yresults), you will see that R1b-L21 (S145) is the best represented haplogroup in it. IMHO, the Vikings were never more than a conquering elite, a thin veneer at the very top of Norman society. That is why the Normans became French so quickly. By the time of the Norman Conquest, probably the native Gallo-Roman population was well on its way to assimilating and subsuming the y-dna descendants of the Vikings. L21 may have been well represented in the ranks of William's army, which also included Bretons, and modern Bretagne is about 40% R1b-L21.

In other words, your y-dna ancestry very well could be Norman.

Very reassuring and Thank you for the link, I knew about the Breton's and the number of L21 to be found in western Norway who so say ended up in Norway by way of slaves taken from Ireland and Wales, but I expected to find more of a Norse DNA mix in mine I suppose.

It is possible that some of the L21 in Scandinavia is native, having been brought there by Beaker Folk in the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age, so the stray Viking here and there could have been L21+. Just the same, it's likely most of the Vikings belonged to other y haplogroups, like I-M253, R1b-U106, and R1a-L448.
