View Full Version : Clarification on M222 subclades: Kennedy's SNP Tree vs Mike's - status of DF105(S659)

Working my way down the SNP trail for a McCune, kit 284336, who tested M222+ and DF85-.

A surname admin suggested he might be S603, as is a McKown, but he doesn't STR match McKown, but does match Byrne, Downey/Downing, Carr who are also S603 listed names.
Kennedy's tree shows S661(DF104)>S660/S659(DF105)>S588>S603. Only DF104 & DF105 are currently tested by FTDNA, so I was going to order DF105 (can't get more DNA, so YSeq is not an option).
But, Mike's tree goes DF104>DF109(S660)>S588>S603, and doesn't even list S659(DF105), so now what?

Should I test for DF104 instead, and not DF105, as now I'm not sure of it's position, is it DF104>DF105>DF109 or ?

DF105 is available from FTDNA, I've put in a request to add S588 but it hasn't been added let (a259 was added there this week).

Anyways there are several known DF104+/DF105- men so DF105 is definetly a known subclade of wider DF104. I'd test DF105 first, if negative then try DF104. From what we can see S660 (DF109) is equivalent to DF105. If you were to be DF104+/DF105- then it might be worth testing DF109/S660.

Good News! S588 is available to order from FTDNA! Thanks for getting it added!

McCune is DF105+, so will now test S588.

Dang it! NOW they roll out the $99 M222 bundle, with 63 SNPs. Wonder what the heck they include? I guess we'll know more when the results start rolling in, in a couple months. I'll not be ordering any more single SNPs until this is sorted out! S588, you just snuck in under the wire!

Tim,

Having just sponsored someone for A259 ($39) yesterday it's bit of a nuiscance to know I could have tested several more SNP's at a reasonable price (though A259 doesn't seem to be included on list). Anyways the email was forwarded onto the M222 mailing list. I've uploaded a copy of the tree and it can be viewed here:

Just regarding bundle, in the Ireland project we have a total of 70 of the "M222 Bundle Pack" (SMS-M222) in the pending queue, with another 2 waiting to be shipped to Lab.

It's gonna be an interesting set of results in a couple weeks time.

Well, DF105+, but S588- and DF85-.
Reviewing your new tree above, looks like another 8 SNPs to test! Guess I'll be doing the M222 Bundle after all!
