I have done Full Genome Scan of my MTDNA and am T1a1

I have exact matches whose ancestry is Irish, English, Dutch, German, Swedish, Finnish, Russian and Jewish.

The largest single group are probably Jewish, then Finnish.

My wife got a T1a1 certificate from FTDNA, but there is actually another mutation G3337A that makes her T1a10. This was defined more recently -- it shows in GenBank, I'm not sure where else. I just mention it in case any of you guys have G3337A in your T1a1 results. FTDNA haplotree software doesn't keep up with the latest discoveries, including their own.

Hi, I was tested at 23andme and have the T1a1 haplotype. Of about 1000 DNA family members, only 27 have this haplotype. Also, I am Blood Type A Rh Negative, so that narrows it down a little further. I have about the same mix as you except add Asian, Native American and Sardinian to the mix! I wonder where this "first mother" comes from? I joined WikiTree, too and hope to get some more info over there. So interesting, especially with the advent of worldwide intellectual connection! Fabulous. Someday we won't need computers.......That's what I think. According to 23andme they know the mDNA goes back 500 years at least. I also have Neanderthat. How about you? There is a 3% club :) Mine is only 2.8%.

pconroy, I'm T1a1 with these extra mutations: 315.1C

Have you seen my last mutation, before? I have no exact matches for FGS via FTDNA; I have plenty of GD 1. I'm trying to figure out deep ancestry for my T1a1. Thanks.

Thanks for this Thread. I am T1a1. I have had FTDNA MtDNA FGS for some time, but never had full matches or paid much attention to mtDNA.

It says I have extra mutations: 309.1C 315.1C 522.1A 522.2C A3892G and no missing mutations.

My most distant maternal ancestor was a women name Barbara, perhaps Thompson, born circa 1790 and died 6 MAY 1830 in Whitehaven, Cumberland, England.
She married John Glover who was a ship captain mostly on the coal/flax route between England and Ireland. Autosomal matches to her son-in-laws family make it a higher probability that there was no NPE or NME and I am genetically descended from her.

I am Mitosearch sample T6SRH. There I have some 0 difference matches, but I do not know (and I haven't researched it) if that means we match completely.

I am sorry I know so little about mtDNA and find it interesting, but I have never seen how in my case, currently, I could gain any more insight in genealogy from it.

I am T1a1, blood type O Neg, 3.1% Neanderthal, and maternal line back to 1800 Ireland. There was an article on "Jack the Ripper" stating he was T1a1, pointing to Ashkenazim in modern day central Poland. The origin of T1a1 was Viking (?) Tuscany according to Sykes.

T1a1 is very old, and its origin unclear, besides originally being from West Asia. T1a is most popular in West Asia today. It first appears in Europe in the Neolithic, along with most mtDNA except certain U clades. It was also very popular in Bronze age East Europe. It first appears at noticeable frequency in west Europe after a massive movement of people from East Europe about 4,500 years ago.

There was a big study a few years ago on the mega-lineage JT, that had plenty of info on T1a1 but I haven't read it yet.

Hi, There is a difference between what FTDNA and Chromo 2 have given me with the T haplogroup.

For FTDNA, I got T1a-T152C! with the extra mutations of 309.1C, 315.1C, 522.1A, 522.2C, T9899C, T15784C

I am T1a1 and am a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. My ancestors from Europe were Moravian Missionaries who mixed with the Cherokees. I also have British and Irish, French and German, Scandinavian, Iberian, Sardinian, Italian, Eastern European, East Asian (which used to list Chinese and Japanese) and Native American, Southern Asian, Sub-Saharan African, West African and 2.8% Neanderthal. I have also run my DNA through the population tests at Gedmatch to find out even more. I was born blonde with green eyes and fair skin and the women in my family are usually redheads, which matches the T1a1 ancestry traced to the Udmurts in what is now Ukraine or Russian-Ukraine where the T1a1 mitochondrial DNA is thought to have originated and has the highest percentage of redheads on the planet. My blood type is A negative. I'm having my DNA tested again at FTDNA, so I will hopefully learn who I am related to on this planet. Probably everyone :D

Everyone? Maybe not too far off.

You could be a bit too quick in blaming the Moravian Missionaries for the T1a1. My mother has four T1a1's on her 'X one-to-many' list. She has several lines back to one male person and these lines have dominated her X-chromosome. A match just about anywhere on her X-chromosome indicates as a common ancestor a particular person who was involved in breeding with enslaved women. The female offspring when old enough generally were sold as brides. Because of the nature of my mother's X-DNA connection I have been able to identify mtDNA haplotypes for a number of the enslaved women. Though a few of the haplogroups were African or Native American in origin, most came from areas preyed upon by the Barbary Pirates. At least one of the slaves was T1a1. I would bet that your maternal line goes back to her.

Hello Everyone,

I recently had my DNA done by 23andme..

My results confirmed i have T1a1 haplogroup, it says T1, a subgroup of T
Age: 22,000 years
Region: Europe, Near East, Northern Africa
Example Populations: British, Palestinians, Turks, Syrians
Highlight: The Vikings may have introduced haplogroup T1 to Britain.; Farmers

i also have O+ blood and i have 2.8% neanderthal DNA.

I'm a little bit lost when it comes to it all, does anyone know any information on this?
i don't really have a lot of family history i just know there is definitely Irish in my blood line from my mothers side.

Thankyou in advance for any help :)

Hi Misswilson,

Welcome to Anthrogenica.

Just curious, how far back can you trace your maternal line with confidence? I would be willing to bet that your are tied to that North Carolina situation I described a few posts down. There was more back-migration to Great Britain during the 18th Century than most people realize, especially as a result of the American Revolution.

Hello,
Sharing my 23andme results. My mtDNA is T1a1. I have 306 Neanderthal traits. I believe my blood type is AB+
Speculative level - 100% European

98.2% Northwestern European
77.2% British/Irish
7.5% German/French
0.4% Scandinavian
0.0% Finnish
13.1% Broadly Northwestern European

Southern European 1.2% with 0.9% Iberian and 0.3% broadly southern European. 0.0% Sardinian, Italian and Balkan
<1% Ashkenazi Jewish
0.6% Broadly European

In the conservative level I am:
98.3% European with 1.7% unassigned

73.7% Northwestern European
15.3% British/Irish
58.1% Broadly Northwestern European
24.9% Broadly European

I do know my great grandfather and great grandmother on my maternal grandfather's side were from Bantry Bay Area in Ireland, but that is as far as we have gotten there due to a fire destroying birth records. On my grandmother's side there are English and Irish lines and some Norman. Names include Shea, Crowley, Taft, Marmion, and Clegg.

I am in the process of having my mother and father's DNA tested. :)

Much further than what? LivingDNA tests "over 4k" of the 16.5k mtdna markers. Much better than FTDNAs "plus" test, but nowhere near the FMS test.

LivingDNA gave me the same mtdna haplogroup as FTDNA (T1a1j).

I've got my maternal line traced back to my 4th-great-grandmother Friederika Elisabeth Hinnah, born 1823 in Ledde, Westfalen (Prussia/Germany). All of her children were also born in Ledde.

I am T1a1 with 3% Neanderthal. I am AB+

I'm the exact same! Perhaps we're twins? :)

subclades downstream of T1a1 seem not well defined (Full tree and so on) in all the diversity ? Am I wrong or not ?

Saw a chap who was T1a1c and wondered if he might be related?

1) R131, Via Paisiello, 0-200CE (Imperial Rome) - T1a12
2) R70, Azienda Nazionale Autonoma delle Strada, 100-300CE (Imperial Rome) - T1a
3) R36, Celio, 400-600CE (Late Antiquity) - T1a1
4) R105, Crypta Balbi, 400-600CE (Late Antiquity) - T1a

I am updating this reply. I did further testing at Gedmatch and found that my haplogroup original ancestor is from Siberia and the group of people who have the most T1a1 in the world are the Udmurts of Udmurtia in Russia and they also have the highest number of people with red hair. They are probably the group that moved north and populated the British Isles and Scandinavia, bringing their red hair genes with them. When looking at YouTube videos of the Udmurts practicing their traditional dances in traditional clothing, it was like looking at a hundred faces that matched my redheaded sister. I feel fortunate that my haplogroup still has a bunch of living members from the place of origin and not just bones found at archeological sites. My T1a1 haplogroup is traced to my Osborn ancesters, more recently, in the last few hundred years, from Finland. It is not connected to my Jewish ancestry at all, since that is paternal and the T1a1 is strictly maternal. My sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother all had red hair that matched the Udmurts. Pictures before that time are in Sepia.

Since T1a1 is passed down from mother to daughter and my maternal line is from Finland, my T1a1 is from my Finnish ancestors and Gedmatch traces it back to Siberia and the Udmurts. I don't know what my paternal haplotype is since I am not male. You would be lucky enough to learn both. But my female ancestors can be traced back five or six generations of daughters from prior to slavery existing in N. America. My mother's paternal line is Cherokee and mixed with Moravian Missionaries, but I don't share that haplotype, obviously, and neither does she. I also don't know my father's haplotype and it wouldn't matter for me, anyway, except as a curiosity and further knowledge.

I read about the Udmurts, could it be a genetic echo? Low readings outside Udmurtia.

I received from YSEQ my results for complete sequence of MtDNA : I was T1a1 (26 SNP identified by LivingDNA) with possible downstream and I'm now once and for all T1a1* (35 SNP at least, whose 3SNP not significient) with no downstream.
Many T1a1 have extra SNP (1 to 10) more than the basis amount (32 SNP) for T1a1 (but downstream not yet caracterized )!!
Maybe something like 10-15 % of T1a1 are finally T1a1* as me.

I think I am T1a1c as that was a match elsewhere.
