The 50-60 SNP panel by haplogroup is pretty interesting...

I've been waiting a very long time for the "Deep Clade 2.0" to be rolled out. The sooner they release the tests the better. There are a lot of people out there that really need their terminal SNP determined and the BigY wasn't something a lot of them were willing to spend money on. I really hope they take advantage of the test once it is rolled out.

The 50-60 SNP panel by haplogroup is pretty interesting... I agree. People need to communicate with their admins to get coverage for as many project members as possible.

Dear Richard,
This part made me chuckle :-)

How times have changed since 2006.
dp :-)

"CeCe mentioned that currently there are only 44,000 full sequence results in the Family Tree DNA data base and and 185K total HVR1, HVR2 and full sequence tests. Y has half a million. We need to increase the data base, which, of course increases matches and makes everyone happier. If you haven’t tested your mitochondrial DNA to the full sequence level, this would be a great time!"

[general -- industry wide]
"In 2013, the industry crossed the millionth kit line. The second millionth kit was sold in early summer 2014"

I just got a 23andme kit. Their site says they have had 750,000 kits. -dp

[X dna comparisons]
"If Gedmatch can do it, why can’t Family Tree DNA? A: Laugh .. www.familytreedna.com/suggestions"

[autosomal admixture reference samples]
referring to the above Gene-by-Gene (parent of FTDNA) the speaker was asked the following:
"Are the reference populations from Genographic? A: No, they do not overlap enough."

another speaker:
"CeCe mentioned that there could be a problem of missing Sephardic Jew in the myOrigins database. What happens? A: It comes back as Middle Eastern. Next week, Razib will work with a new dataset that contains that population."

[FamilyFinder matches]
"Around 95,000 people have done Family Finder or have imported their data into the database up to this point."

"Bennett asked Elliott if it is currently possible to predict haplogroups at a deep level with just STRs and Elliott said that it’s not do-able any more, even with 111 markers, at least for M222."
