I thought it would be interesting to see comparisons of MyOrigins results for those who have had themselves, and one or more parents tested.

I transferred my results, and my dad's some time ago from AncestryDNA. Unfortunately, I'm not able to transfer my mom's, as I only have 23andme V2 raw data for her. Haven't had the budget to pay for any new dna labwork over the past year.

Here are my father's results:

I'm going to do this as soon as I am able to get back here, Mom's dealing with a failing hip replacement, and I've given myself a hernia from caring for her. I am noting this because I need a night out, and that's what I'm about to do.

Tįltos, is your mom 100% Sicilian?

Tįltos, is your mom 100% Sicilian?
You would think so with results of 50% Southern Italian, and 23% Asia Minor! She is 50% Arbėreshė. Her father's family is from a small Albanian village in Southern Italy, it was one of the first Albanian villages to be established in that region during the time of Skanderbeg. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skanderbeg

Her mother had Colonial German/Dutch roots, so I think some of those percentages have to come from her mother. Interesting enough both my Mom and myself have autosomal matches to people from Turkey. Those matches that do respond to me indicated they have Albanian ancestry somewhere, but they are never quite sure of exactly how, or from what region, or a surname. We also have quite a few matches to people who are of Greek ancestry, so I do have to wonder how far back my ancestors have been in this little Italian village. Family that we have over there have indicated that it's been since the beginning, but how far back is this DNA hanging on for? All surnames in my maternal grandfather's family can be traced back to this village, except his mother's father. However every record I have found for her has stated she was from this village.

Mother's Mother: 45% Central Asia, 41% South Asia, 5% Eastern Europe, 5% British Isles, 2% Eastern Middle East, 1% Native American
Mother's Paternal Uncle: 51% Central Asia, 41% South Asia, 6% British Isles, 1% Native American
Mother: 51% Central Asia, 39% South Asia, 5% Eastern Europe, 5% Finland/Siberia, 1% Native American
Father: 45% Central Asia, 41% South Asia, 10% Scandinavia, 3% Northeast Asia
Me: 49% Central Asia, 38% South Asia, 3% Eastern Europe, 6% Finland/Siberia, 5% Southeast Asia

My mother/father are 2nd cousins, so everyone's related to one another pretty closely, and there's still that difference.

My mother's is 98% European and 1% Middle Eastern. It includes 51% Western & Central Europe, 40% British Isles, 4% Eastern Europe and 3% Finland & Northern Siberia. Her Middle Eastern is North African. In contrast, mine is 97% European and 3% Central/South Asian. This includes 88% Western & Central Europe, 5% Finland & Northern Siberia and 4% Eastern Europe. My Central/South Asian is Central Asian. While these numbers themselves are somewhat divergent, I have had both of our autosomal analyzed and came to the conclusion that my mother has more ancestry from the British Isles, while I have more Central European and Scandinavian. So, the overall results seem consistent with what I have learned about our ancestry.

myOrigins is the most inaccurate paid for DNA test out there. I don't think they deserve their price. As you can see by how nortoriously inconsistent it is.

My mother's known ancestry is English, perhaps Scottish, Norwegian, Swedish, with one Jewish grandfather. The Jewish family came from northern Germany near what is now the Polish border. For my sister and I my father's side added English, Welsh, and German. Those German families came from Mecklinberg-Schwerin and Bavaria.

I have no idea why my mother shows so much Southern Europe. What's interesting to me is what's around the edges. My mother and I both show that 1% Central/S Asia, and other sites show Finland for me. I had assumed that the Finnish came in with the Scandinavian, but my cousin who took the Y test for me shows 4% Finnish. His maternal grandfather is from a French Canadian family, although I don't know his maternal grandmother's ancestry I don't remember hearing she was Finnish!
