I would like to know where the chromosomes 22473949 & 22474043 are placed (older or more recent in time) with regard to FGC14113 also known as Y3470 (ChrY: 8849102).

Also, are 22473949 & 22474043 considered "reliable" or are they new? I share both with a match as "novel variants" in my Big Y results and both passed with "high confidence" for both of us.

Both locations have named variants associated with them.

22473949-G-T is BY185 aka SUR33
22474043-G-T is BY188

They are marked as diploid calls in the VCFs I have, which means the true location of the variants are indeterminate. Further they are in the DYZ19 repeat region. All of this means as far as phylogeny they are generally not dependable markers.

Both variants are also present in just about every haplogroup under R1b that I have files for. So if they are stable, they are pretty high up in the hierarchy.

Hi James,

I hope that they will be able to be more precise about these 2 SNPs in the future. High up in the hierarchy, so they are older and fairly widespread and thus mean little for matching others.

Thanks.
