I've not seen many of these and would like to be able to compare to others. So post from any admix utility that you prefer. I'll add more as the thread gains momentum.

Here are my K13 and K15 painted runs.

Yes, I was noticing. It may be interesting to do a Gedmatch chromosome comparison to see if anything comes of it. I am 25% hillbilly. My maternal grandmother was from Pocahontas County, West Virginia with long-time roots there back to the 1600's in Virginia.

Just incase anyone is having trouble posting their runs.. Simply run the admix utility and then while looking at the results, press control, alt and Print screen to capture the image. After this I simply go to Paint, hit paste and voila! You can upload your results if you wish after that.

I noticed that several of the components share colors. You can kind of tell which is which by its relation to the other colors - the Amerindian tends to come from the very top and flows down if it is present and the North African comes from "the bottom" and flows up. It is the same with the other shared colors. Sometimes it is difficult to tell, but most of the time I was able to sort it out.

Something I've been wondering, why is that I show fairly consistent percentages on the chromosome painter for Africa in general, but on the ethnic breakdown percentages I am showing less than one percent or zero. I rarely show anything percentage wise for sub-Saharan African, but depending on the admix utility it either assigns the sections that do show up as African to either sub-Saharan or north African/north east African for the chromosome painter. On the eurogenes version these percentages are consistent, but on the mdlp runs these percentages often don't appear in the same places as the eurogenes and are more scattered and noisy.

From what I gather the mdlp is generally regarded as having a better overall world population sampling. So I'm not really sure how much stock should be placed into the the chromosome painter. The possibility of African input isn't really surprising, considering the length of time some of my people have been in this country. I'm trying to pin down how recent this may have been.

The main thing I'm scratching my head over is the fact that I show basically just noise for sub-Saharan across the board, but I generally show just under one percent for either north African or north east African. You'd think the sub-Saharan component would be the one showing up if I had an African ancestor that traced back to the 18th century.

Any thoughts??

Interesting. I hadn't considered that possibility. I do seem to recall a rather odd (Odd for the area) surname showing up in my recent family tree. The surname was Cesar.

I get Oracle4 combinations that have Spanish in them all the time. My speculation has been that I have African looking values like a Spaniard and East Asian values like a Far Northern or Eastern European (which gives me Russian type Oracle4 values) both in minority form even though I don't have those in my family tree as far as I know. I seem to have more of those than my ancestry would warrant. I guess we have discussed that on other threads.

Example segment where all the calculators think something African is going on:

Eurogenes K13 thinks it is mostly SubSaharan plus West Med, East Med, Red Sea, NE African and some North Atlantic (red) and East Asian (lt. blue).
3751

MDLP K23b thinks it is mostly North African with some EEF and a little Caucasian:
3752

Dodecad V3 thinks it is mostly NW African with some Med and smaller amounts of Paleo African and Neo African:
3753

HarappaWorld thinks it is Mediterranean with Pygmy, W African, San plus some Beringian (blue) and very small bit of Caucasian.
3754

EthioHelix has it as the most European but has significant N. African, Khoi-San, Eastern Bantu and small amounts of Omotic, Nilo Saharan, Biaka Pygmy, and Mbuti Pygmy:
3755

I am sure Sam has some similar stuff.

I was reading in "Ancestral Journeys" about the rolloff technique showing, if I remember correctly, that 55 generations ago an admixture event occurred in Iberia which she attributed to the Moors. The results were 1-3% NE African in Spaniards.

I went through the admix components for my uncle, and extracted the most African results.

Oracle4:
1 Hungarians + Norwegian + Orkney + Spaniards @ 1.639914
2 Hungarians + Norwegian + Orcadian + Spaniards @ 1.658280

Eurogenes K13: Sub-Saharan 1.39%

Oracle4:
1 French_Basque + Polish + West_Scottish + West_Scottish @ 2.302566
2 Dutch + Dutch + French_Basque + North_Swedish @ 2.336363

Eurogenes EUtest v2 K15: Sub-Saharan 1.24%

Oracle4:
1 East_German + French_Basque + Irish + Irish @ 2.782322
2 East_German + French_Basque + Irish + West_Scottish @ 2.837457

I guess Canarias, French Basque and Spanish all indicate similar geography. I wonder why they haven't tested Spanish Basque.

Comparing my chromo painter to my admix proportions gives me even less faith in the paint feature.. I'm only list percentages for Chromosome six and thirteen as these are the only areas that don't necessarily look like noise.

Using Eurogenes k15 my proportions for Northeast African and Sub-Saharan are as follows..

Chromosome 6- Sub Saharan:0.0, Northeast African:1.6

Chromosome13- Sub Saharan: 6.3, Northeast African:0.0

Using Mdlp K23b

Chromosome 6- Archaic African:1.6, North African:0.0, Pygmy:0.0, Sub-Saharian:0.0

Chromosome13- Archaic African:3.3, North African:1.5, Pygmy:0.0, Sub-Saharian:1.7
