I wanted to start a thread on E-U290 (E1b1a1a1g1a, E1b1a8a1) to compile information on this clade which originates in Subsaharan Africa and peaks in West-Central Africa. The parent clade is scattered throughout Subsaharan Africa and it is found among diverse groups of ethnicities in the western, eastern, and southern reaches of the continent. However, this specific subclade is more often associated with the West and Central African regions and in the Americas among descendants of the African continent, chiefly African Americans.

Simms, et al. (2007) (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/humu.9469/pdf) find a frequency of approximately 15% in their African American sample. U-290 contained one further subclade (E-U181, E1b1a1a1g1a1) which was found in 3% of African Americans sampled.

Montano, et al. (2011) (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1365-294X.2011.05130.x/abstract) find a peak of 57.7% in the Ewondo of Cameroon. However, because it is not an open article, I could not probe this paper any further.

Any further sources and material will be appreciated.

Also E1b1a1a1g (U175+) is present in Arabian and European populations (possible Marranos/Moors origin)

U290 is a big subclade. It's not very tested well in the FTDNA E-V38 Projects. :(
