This is significant to our evaluation of Neanderthals because jewelry is a sign of beauty appreciation and improvement. Art is considered one of the marks of so-called behavioral modernity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behavioral_modernity#Definition).

I wonder if there will be any evidence of corvidae near what Neanderthal remains are recovered at Les Cottés (http://archaeology.leiden.edu/research/human-origins/digging/excavations-at-les-cottes.html). The Neanderthals were said to be fond of corvids as well as raptors, for ceremonial purposes likely.

At A. Whittal's blog, the author alleges that Neanderthals were the first into the Americas. (Source (http://patagoniamonsters.blogspot.com/2014/06/mtdna-c1-haplogroup-and-neanderthals.html))
