Brian Sykes mentions various haplotypes related to R1b giving them names like OGAP 12 etc .Is there any way that these haplotypes can be "translated " into conventional R1b terms ? The differences are usually small changes on markers DYS 390, DYS 391 etc .

The Oxford Genetic Atlas Project (OGAP) haplotypes are based on 10 markers (DYS19, DYS390, DYS391, DYS392, DYS393, DYS389i, DYS389ii, DYS388, DYS425 & DYS 426).

I doubt that you can get any better resolution than R1b based on just 10 markers.

Thanks Clinton . One of the markers used in OGAP , DYS 439 can define R1b1c9a when it is null .Is that just a special case ? Am I right in thinking that these small differences between say say OGAP 7 and OGAP 6 are at familial levels .
