Kurdish sounds very similar to Pashto. I couldn't believe a group of Kurds weren't initially Pashtuns at a restaurant, it sounded exactly like Pashto haha. Great music btw

I agree, from a distance, some kurdi dialects such as Sorani, sound like Pashto. I also find it quite interesting that there are overlapping words between Kurdi and Pashto. Farsi overlaps some of these words but not all. Considering that the Kurd and Pashtun areas are geographically separated, I can't think of any other reason other than an ancestral connection between the two, as the reason why some Kurdi words overlap with Pashto, but not Farsi. Here are a few that come to mind:

An interesting song by singer Morteza Barjesteh, with parts in Kurdi and parts in Farsi. Video quality is poor, but interesting because it covers a few areas of Iran. I believe Rashid Khan was a Kurd leader in the Kurd majority city of Koochan in Khorasan.

Wow interesting post :), i mean I can't speak Pashto but I know it when I hear it, and Kurdish sounded very Pashto like. I don't know where they were from, probably Iraqi Kurds since it was in a Arab area.

I really enjoyed your selection. I love Kurdish songs and the language in general. You have to check out the Irani musical group Rastaak. They record and perform large sets with each song being of a different Irani language. The Kurdish songs are awesome! I'll try to post it later, when I am less lazy, if you haven't found it by then.

Modern Persian words in order: sefid (IIRC Middle Persian was "sepid" or "spid"), sorx, zar, narenji, gulabi, am, pishi/ghorbeh, rosh, baran, maar, khar, bomb (English loan), millat, baam, xosh amadid.
So, the majority of these words are the same between Persian, Kurdish and Pashto, but I do agree there's some preferential matching between Kurmanji Kurdish (I assume this is the Kurdish language you've used as a baseline here?) and Pashto.
No expert regarding why that is the case, but I'd guess the more cosmopolitan and globally accessible nature of the regions where Persian has a native status meant changes were more readily developed. Also, Turkic loans in Persian (what is the Pashto and Kurmanji words for fruit, small and slow out of interest?). Nonetheless, the three are clearly quite similar here.

In pure Pashto (nobody speaks this); snake is "mangor", nationality is "hewadwaal", and bomb is "chawudna". The words you listed (maar, milat, top) are Persian loanwords. Is that Sorani btw?

I think it's far more plausible that it is because Kurdish and Persian are both Western Iranian languages than them being Persian loanwords.

This one is good. Kurdish has a very cool feel compared to other Iranic languages.

A kurmanji song about Kurds returning to Zoroastrianism. There are quite a few comments in the comment section for the song.

This dance is called Shexani (which would mean the ‘dance of the sheikhs’ or the ‘dance from Shexan’ (a region). There are variations of it from Behdinan, Hakkari, Van, Urmia and Soran.

‘Se pey’ meaning ‘the three footed’ dance. Very popular amongst Sorani and Gorani speaking Kurds and there are a few variations.

I’m not sure what the original name of this dance is, but people call it the ‘gerilla halay’ meaning the dance of the guerrillas.

This dance seem to be danced by only men. In other kurmanji speaking regions there are different types of dances which only men dance and dances where both women and men dance. Do you have that in your region?
To be honest I've never really thought about that. Everyone really dances together, or sometimes they will form separate lines men will dance with men and women with women.
