It is my impression that research on the subject of mitochondrial haplogroup A2 is still quite spotty. Are there any massive studies on the subject that could break down in the Americas where the different subclades exist and how they relate to one another? I would like to know if it is possible to determine whether an A2 is more likely to be Athabaskan, Central American, Amazonian, etc. yet. How close is my dream to being realized? Can anyone enlighten me? How long will I have to wait?

My paternal grandmother is from Costa Rica and she is A2j. Our autosomals list it as Mayan/Caribbean Columbian Indian.

We were very surprised because our tree shows the Indian mixture not all that far back but my grandmother was white as a ghost and baby blue eyes. It was an awesome surprise. My dad is 35% and I am 16.5%

Edited to say that Mayan covers a LOT of ground. From Mexico all the way to Panama! Ours happens to be Costa Rican area and lower extending to Caribb, perhaps Arawaki or Taino in the Caribbean Sea.
