Hi everybody,

I'm new to genetics, but I would like to know more about my ancestry, so I did the test on 23andme.

I'm Italian, my father comes from the central part and my mother is from Puglia.

My maternal haplogroup is T1a. My Neanderthal Ancestry is 2.6%.

This is my ancestry overview

5720

These are my main countries of ancestry

5721

I have confirmed Romani ancestry, coming from the South Asian and the Balcanic percentage.

I would like to know more about the ancestry from Northen Europe (Finnish and Irish) and from Eastern Europe (maybe Hungary?).

I suppose that Middle Eastern ancestry comes from Turkey, when the Turkish came to Sourthen Italy in the XIII-XIV century. I think something similar about the Iberian ancestry, beacuse they came to Italy in the XIV-XV century.

If someone more expert than me can help me about it, feel free to comment the thread.
A problem that I have on 23andme is to interpret the DNA segments that I have in common with my relatives there. Can someone explain me that?

P.S. Click on the pictures to enlarge them

Congrats!
What is your paternal lineage (y-dna)? Where do you cluster in intra-European plots?

In any case, you have to rely on your known ancestry to interpret the results. Turkish ancestry for instance in extremely unlikely. Just because Turkey appears in your "Countries of ancestry" doesn't mean have ancestry from there at all (I have Brazil for instance and I'm not a New Worlder).
Based on the little information you gave, you look like a plain Italian to me.

You should register at gedmatch.com. You'll get a clearer picture.

Ignis is correct for especialy your admixtures from Turkey. Additionaly i may say that your South Asian may not be proof of any Romani ancestry.

Hi cousin,

Welcome to the forum, officially that is :)

Gedmatch would be a good way to learn about your Finnish connection..

I would send an invite to share with the public Finnish Country of Ancestry matches you have, I would also advice you to do the same with all Northern European matches, that will give you allot of information, as you can then start to triangulate the segments. Our connection is obviously Romani related, but it might not be the case for the Finnish matches..

Also, I noted that both you and another Romani relative of ours share the same T1a mtDNA line, I wonder how common that is among Romani:

She matches my grandmother via a Romani segment and have a bunch of other Romani matches, so she does have Romani ancestry for sure.

edit: Nevermind. I hadn't looked at the Countries of Ancestry.

Hi, It's ben a long while since I entered in the forum!

I would like to update you with my latest findings.

I 'm on gedmatch, so if you are able to help me, you're welcome :)
I find that I don't have Turkish ancestry, but my Turkish relatives come from Central Asia, but they are not Romani. On gedmatch I confirmed my Finnish and south Asian ancestry, but I think that the Finnish is somehow connected with the Asian one.
Unfortunately I can't go deeper in my research on 23andme because of privacy settings adopted by my relatives.

For Euorgenes K13 calculator my first population I'm more Central Greek than Italian, which is only my second population.

If you are able to give me any advice, you're welcome :)
