Hello,

My dad's mtdna haplogroup is H3, as provided me by 23andme.

www.dna.jameslick.com is a neat site with fairly accurate calculations which one can import raw data from certain dna sites (including 23andme) and predict mtdna haplogroups.

This is what he gets-

Best mtDNA Haplogroup Matches:

1) H3(A73G)

Defining Markers for haplogroup H3(A73G):
HVR2: 73G 263G
CR: 750G 1438G 4769G 6776C 8860G 15326G
HVR1:

Marker path from rCRS to haplogroup H3(A73G) (plus extra markers):
H2a2a1(rCRS) ⇨ 263G ⇨ H2a2a ⇨ 8860G 15326G ⇨ H2a2 ⇨ 750G ⇨ H2a ⇨ 4769G ⇨ H2 ⇨ 1438G ⇨ H ⇨ 6776C ⇨ H3 ⇨ 73G ⇨ H3(A73G) ⇨ (16519C)

Imperfect Match. Your results contained differences with this haplogroup:
Matches(7): 73G 263G 750G 1438G 4769G 6776C 8860G
Extras(0): (16519C)
Untested(1): 15326

2) H3d

Defining Markers for haplogroup H3d:
HVR2: 73G 263G
CR: 750G 761G 1438G 4769G 6776C 8860G 15326G
HVR1:

Marker path from rCRS to haplogroup H3d (plus extra markers):
H2a2a1(rCRS) ⇨ 263G ⇨ H2a2a ⇨ 8860G 15326G ⇨ H2a2 ⇨ 750G ⇨ H2a ⇨ 4769G ⇨ H2 ⇨ 1438G ⇨ H ⇨ 6776C ⇨ H3 ⇨ 73G ⇨ H3(A73G) ⇨ 761G ⇨ H3d ⇨ (16519C)

Imperfect Match. Your results contained differences with this haplogroup:
Matches(7): 73G 263G 750G 1438G 4769G 6776C 8860G
Extras(0): (16519C)
Untested(2): 761 15326

3) H3

Defining Markers for haplogroup H3:
HVR2: 263G
CR: 750G 1438G 4769G 6776C 8860G 15326G
HVR1:

Marker path from rCRS to haplogroup H3 (plus extra markers):
H2a2a1(rCRS) ⇨ 263G ⇨ H2a2a ⇨ 8860G 15326G ⇨ H2a2 ⇨ 750G ⇨ H2a ⇨ 4769G ⇨ H2 ⇨ 1438G ⇨ H ⇨ 6776C ⇨ H3 ⇨ 73G (16519C)

Imperfect Match. Your results contained differences with this haplogroup:
Matches(6): 263G 750G 1438G 4769G 6776C 8860G

Does any of this indicate to any of you some suspicions as to his deeper subclade?

Thanks!

I've no idea. I suppose it would probably be best to take the mtDNA full genome test with FTDNA.

I'm H3i1 myself.

bump...anyone else have any thoughts?

I realize FTDNA does what it does, but I'm cheap....lol.....

Any final thoughts? Anything that can possibly be interpreted by the data from the Jameslick site?

It certainly does seem to pin his upperclade as H3. 16519C is the fairly consistent anamoly which could be a back mutation or indicate a newer subclade not yet definined in Lick's reader.
